ah ok. I’m gonna be on a vacation then lol. Hope it doesn’t ruin it
I saw the ED thread and found a lot of students with ACT33 to 35, decent GPA and ok EC got deferred, waisted.
My daughter has the similar stats…if she get in, it’s her luck. If not, nothing to complain. There are just so many smart and hard working kids. Good luck to everyone.
Rice offered application fee waive to my daughter which gave her a hope that she might stand a chance… now it seems the chance is very slim.
Don’t lose hope. Rice does not take as large a percentage of its class ED as its peer institutions, and it doesn’t have ED 2 as many of its peers do. Rice is likely being a bit cautious this year as it was overenrolled last year, had the biggest freshman class ever, and had to scramble to find enough housing for the class. It may use a wait list more than it has in the past to control the yield. My daughter got in last year RD with stats similar to what you describe. This time last year, I was kicking myself for not making my daughter apply to Rice ED. It all worked out in the end. However waiting until late March for the decisions to come out is the hardest part.
@Awakefish unfortunately (or fortunately?) the 25th percentile ACT score for Rice admits last year was a 33.
Dumb question but does Rice value demonstrated interest? How much do top universities like this care about that kind of stuff? I already know I have no chance of getting in but I can only wonder…
@Dando2 Rice does care about demonstrated interest. one of the few top schools i know of that do.
@dando2 Rice Common Data Set section C lists that “Level of applicant’s interest” is considered.

We received email from Rice that says -
If you have not already submitted the materials to be considered for need-based financial aid, please do so by March 1. Refer to this checklist for a list of the required documents. For more information visit our financial aid website.
They are showing documents missing (tax forms/W2 etc). However, Rice is not appearing in IDOC for us.
When we contact Rice they ask to check with CollegeBoard and when we contact CollegeBoard they ask to check with Rice. How can we submit the documents ?
@dal19 - Maybe also post your question in the financial aid forum? http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/financial-aid-scholarships/
Thanks, I posted there too.
We were able to submit forms to Rice via IDOC last year, but IDOC is a pain. Try using a different browser. It worked better for me to submit via Chrome than Safari. Can you send Rice hard copies of the forms as back up?
If I indicated that I would apply for the Rice/Baylor Program - but didn’t complete the application (separate). Would that be counted against me?
We were able to fax idoc documents to Rice today.
Just received my Esther log in info today
Does anyone know if Rice sends likely letters to non-athletes?
Rice sends “likely letters” in the form of a VISION invitation
Is that only for URMs?
@MomLA2018 there were some non-URMs when I was there. So it wasn’t limited just to URMs.
The website says it is for socio-economic and other diversity? Is that not right? I never heard of likely letters for non-athletes until D got some from Ivies and I was just wondering what other schools she applied to sent them out to applicants generally.
