Class of 2022 (sharing, discussing, application and audition season)

@type1mom is the best and extremely supportive. I’m with her, I want all of our kids to make it! I had not even thought about auditioning for CMU until I spoke with her. Are you auditioning in Chicago? I looked yesterday and saw that they were only auditioning 5 students for their morning and afternoon sessions. I am very new at this but looking at the other school Auditions, It appears it’s a very small group compared to others who have 20-25 spots available. I also see they are about full for Chicago. Good Luck to your Daughter.

My son finally submitted some applications yesterday! Hopefully, the schedule that’s in place for the balance of the work and auditions will stay on track.

Congrats @DoinResearch! Things are much easier once you get the ball rolling.

My D was very funny and wouldn’t let me look or touch the computer when she was submitting her applications this weekend. I was literally put in a corner and she read things to me for comments. We are redefining our relationships and she really wants to be in control with help on her terms. I think its all good growth. I actually do believe all our kids will end up exactly where they need to. I am proud of her for her independence even though it means I need to step back a bit.

Hi, newcomer here! (Sorry if I’m not doing this right—still trying to get the hang of it!). Has anyone here had auditions for any of University of Evansville’s programs yet (whether the BFA or the Theatre Generalist degree)? Does anyone know anything about what the auditions are like? There doesn’t seem to be much info about UE on the threads, even though it’s a great program. Any info would be appreciated! :))

Anyone out there have info/opinion on the West Virginia University Acting BFA? This is a program that reauditions at end of Sophomore year and only takes 16 freshmen. I have heard multiple sources comment on WVU admin’s strategic plan and commitment to it’s Acting program and now developing a new MT program (sports money the University enjoys is a great revenue source for the Fine Arts?) I see they offer an MFA in acting as well. Also found this program described as " hidden gem" on another website. My D visited and loved it… Can’t find much CC comment on this program?

I think Evansville does a basic audition of two monologues and interviews students too. For the BFA anyway. It is pretty short from what i have been told.

Good luck.

Rough day today: my daughter was accepted to Marymount BFA Acting, but my son wasn’t, and he’s devastated. He loved the school and thought his audition had gone well. He’s picking himself up and auditioning for other schools, but it was a big blow. We’re very happy for D, of course! But as the saying goes, “A mother is only as happy as her least happy child.”

oh, wow @actorparent1. That is super hard! If I am recalling your description of their auditions, it sounded like your son felt his went well and your daughter wasn’t sure (based on the feedback they got). Proof that it is really hard to predict outcomes. So sorry for your son — when my D got her first rejection (it was also early in the process and from her top choice at the time) she was so down. It is really hard to watch and even offer support as nothing seems to help. Hang in there! The right place is out there for both of your kids and your son will find his spot. Congrats for your daughter, too. Bittersweet.

Thanks, @bfahopeful. I appreciate the kind words!

@actorparent1 I feel for you, honestly. Must be very difficult to navigate being both happy for your daughter, but sad for your son.

Thanks, @Twoboysandadog.

Big Hug! @actorparent1 it’s so hard to deal with rejections, but your situation is hard, both accept and reject, yikes! Sending compassion and congratulations, at the same time.

@actorparent1 Oh what an emotional day! Both happy and sad. I totally get that you are only as happy as your least happy child. It’s an emotional roller coaster. Personally I kind of allow sadness for 24-48 hours then, well then you know what to do.

Hi again. My D did receive an acceptance to Marymount Manhattan acting with a small arts scholarship. Nice that she heard so fast. Hoping for good news for others and sending mojo to those who don’t. It’s a rough road for all of us,

Ugh! @actorparent ; both thrilled for you; and sending you a virtual hug. This is tough. I have said it many times-I couldn’t do it with multiple kids. I have been blessed with ONE kid who decided to audition over two years…Oy vey.

Thanks, @DoinResearch, @FourStars, and @owensfolks! It helps SO much to be able to vent to other moms who totally GET it!

My son is in a better frame of mind today. He was very upset yesterday and needed to take some time to process the disappointment and mourn “what might have been.” But now he’s putting it behind him and focusing on his next audition, which is Dec. 9 at Adelphi. Fingers crossed!

@actorparent1 - I’m guessing we’ll all have a few stories of rejection to share. It’s inevitable in this business. Still – so tough to see our kids disappointed! Sounds like your S has other good options on the horizon. All the best!

Hi @Atreuh we have the same options as you do. Nothing set in stone until we get into these schools. we have been accepted to 2 but he only will consider them as last options. We’re all in the same boat. I keep stressing to him to prepare to be rejected by all of them as they are highly competitive and we just hold the 2 “meh” for safe keeping. I found out that one will be auditioning for scholarships at unified so he just scheduled to audition for one (just in case) all of this is stressful. I’m curious to wonder if your kids weren’t accepted to the same program because they are siblings? I have a gut feeling your son is going to get into a school so amazing that he will wonder why he even stressed about it

PS my child’s high school is an audition. They accepted 12 kids into the acting/theatre program and they only accepted 1 of the siblings out of the 2 that audition. I do think she was able to audition for MT instead but decided on attending a traditional school she was accepted into.
