In above post I meant if NOT worked with beyond the initial 5-10 min, they have info they need to make a decision about you.
Good luck to all
Several of her auditions last year were scheduled in a 3 - 4 hour block - CMU, Emerson, Ithaca, Pace, UNSCA etc. We did not schedule any other auditions during those time frames because you just can’t anticipate in advance what to expect. At her Carnegie Mellon audition, as has been pointed out, you move from room to room, so there really isn’t time for any other audition within that time. With others, she had breaks and was able to fit in a couple of walk-in opportunities and on her Ithaca afternoon a previously unanticipated dance call. But those are things you will have to figure out at the time that can’t really be planned in advance. My advice - if booked in a 3-4 hour audition slot, do not schedule anything else competing during those hours in advance. You will just make yourself crazy with worry. Wait until you are there in the moment and take advantage of breaks in the process for walk-ins, rest, refueling and rehearsal!
Does anyone have any advice on filling out the FAFSA when applying to more than 10 schools since that’s the limit?
@PaMTmom - you have to do a correction to remove schools after the have been submitted to make room for the additional schools there are a couple other ways too. Here is a link to instructions. https://fafsa.ed.gov/help/fotwfaq14.htm
@waitingforlife Thank you!
Need quick advice - my daughter sent her app into a school and did not receive the automated response to have her get into Accepted She received one from the school itself not the MT program. When she goes onto her personal profile all her info is there and she is in the BFA MT app. She called admissions yesterday and said they would look into it and either email her or call me (since I can talk at work but she cannot at school). They have yet to do either. How long does she wait to contact again? She is terrified that she will miss audition sign ups and this is her #1. I am trying not to get to involved but don’t want her to miss out of her #1
We have done accepted for a few schools you may not need a link to do it … just search for the school and program while logged in
My daughter got two academic acceptances in the mail this week (to schools with rolling admission) and it has all of a sudden hit me how that means basically nothing to us because of the MT process. It’s just “step 1” but for other kids her age at high school who are not performing arts hopefuls- it would be a big exciting day! Both schools also sent her an academic scholarship (one of them very generous) and STILL we just filed the letters in our binder to refer to them later. Today it occurred to me we didn’t even really do much to even congratulate our daughter! haha- These performing arts kids are so hard core… it just struck me more than usual this week when I realized those envelopes are a good thing but they don’t mean too too much to us yet at all. crazy!
@savedrama4momma so she got her Pace acceptance
@Ducky312 actually no! She did apply to Pace but hasn’t heard anything except that her regular app is complete. When did you hear from Pace? Was it just the academic acceptance? She heard from Wright State and Arcadia so far.
@savedrama4momma I remember posting almost the exact same thing last year when we were going through this process. It was so hard, especially when she got those big merit scholarships with her academic acceptances. I just wanted to jump up and down and celebrate, but we just put them all in a stack and realized that the celebrating would have to wait. It’s one of the real hateful things about this process that you can be welcomed, congratulated, given tons of money and even wooed, but then ultimately not get accepted to the program. It can feel like a cruel joke. But keep the faith - there will come a day for celebration!!
Same, @savedrama4momma; and as @sopranomtmom well knows, re my D last year. Academic acceptances, scholarships, honors college acceptances,…had to wait 'til later for the departmental validation that she desired. @savedrama4momma when is her Wright State audition? We will be there 11/4.
@owensfolks I’m so glad you posted that- I’m realizing we haven’t heard back about an audition date so I need to follow up. Did you do the optional prescreen for Wright or just request that date? I need to make sure we aren’t missing something for Wright. All we got was the academic acceptance and the merit offer- it’s hard for me to keep it all straight! How did they notify you that the audition date was confirmed?
PS- @owensfolks looks like we mailed the artistic application form (resume/ headshot/ transcript etc) and request for an audition on Aug 24th. Do you think I should check in with their theater dept?
I would check. That said, my D just tells me when the auditions are, lol-so I have no idea when/how she submitted stuff (trust me-this can be a blessing and a curse.) She is taking a gap year; and was WL with them last year-so I think they streamlined things a bit for her, but I will ask.
@owensfolks We have not heard back on our date for WSU - D also requested the 11/4 date. She did not submit an optional prescreen, just sent in all of the information they requested. I think I will have her follow up if she has not heard by the end of next week. @savedrama4momma you were REALLY on your game! I would think you’d know by now if you have the 11/4 date. The website indicated 2 weeks?
@artskids I will say that we did not request the Nov date because my daughter has her fall show at school - so we couldn’t do that first date. Maybe that is why we haven’t heard back yet. My daughter went ahead and emailed the department though- I just wanted to make sure they in fact received everything. I will let you know if we find anything out. And yes- our fall is CRAZY with 2 shows- so I basically forced her to get applications in during the month of August since I knew the fall would be super nuts. That being said though… we haven’t gotten prescreens completed for those schools that require them! So we were on our game for some things and still behind on that. We are hoping to have the prescreens all submitted by the end of this month. Praying that is early enough to still get auditon slots!!! Do you think we will be good for schools like Pace, Shenandoah, Rider, Otterbein? Thoughts?
PS- @artskids and @owensfolks We already heard back from Wright and our audition is 1/21 which is a perfect date option for working around her show schedule. Let me know how your November audition goes. I’m excited to hear about it! We know a current student there (a senior) and she absolutely LOVES it there!!! I hope you can see Fiddler during your time there!!! (so bummed that date didn’t work for us).
@savedrama4momma You should be fine with getting audition slots for most schools if you submit by late October/early November. We had no issues with S or D1 getting our first choices (but they had FAR fewer prescreens than D2). D will not be ready to submit prescreens before the end of the month, either. She is in a show now, too, but only 1. She did not do her HS fall show (it usually overlaps with her PA school musical; last year she rehearsed from 3-9 almost every day; would NOT sign on for that again!). If she gets the early date at WSU, we will try to see the show!
