My S reported that the CCM audition went well yesterday, approximately 70 kids, only 4 couldn’t make it due to weather cancelling flights. Very organized, students were friendly, they got to see some current students sing & dance after the dance call. Dance portion not too hard (my S is a dancer) simple jazz routine learned quickly & then presented to auditors in groups of 5. Students were given specific times to return for their songs & monologue. The day started at 7:45 and ended as late as 4/4:30 for some. My S was done by 12:30. There were about 6 faculty in the room, they were seeing everyone. He got asked 3 questions after performing. We were told that was a good thing. Everyone will be notified by Friday (1 week) if they are a Yes, No or on Hold.
D was at UNCSA yesterday. I did a brief recap in the Theater/Drama majors’ forum, since this was (obvi) an acting audition-but some tidbits for anyone auditioning there. One (excellent) info session at 9AM. Lasted about an hour. Then the kids had their individual times to do one monologue (maybe two), and sing. Very positive and relaxed vibe. They said this year they will audition 700 for 28 spots.
@artskids is it true there is no dance call for Penn at unifieds?
@bisouu. My daughter has a dance call for Penn state on Sunday. I think she got am email yesterday on getaccepted
@bisouu Penn is UPenn, which has Theatre Arts; not MT. I can’t imagine that Penn State would ever not have a dance call for MT.
@bisouu Penn State does have a dance call at Unifieds this is what my S email said " The dance component of the audition will be held at 9:30AM (for students who audition with us at 10:45AM or 12:00PM) or 1:45PM (for students who audition with us at 3:00PM or 4:15PM). You will learn a ballet and a jazz combination. Please bring clothes appropriate for dance."
@Dody5678 Thank you for your reply I will pass on the info
Thanks to this forum, my daughter is headed to Manhattan for next weekend’s Unifieds to see what she can get. She is widening her search and applications beyond the Northeast.
She has a friend at American Academy of Dramatic Arts (who is also a former student of mine) who has a couch. She’s a small town girl and the fact that she’s taking the train to the big city and approaching all of this without her parents is an accomplishment in itself.
She’s going to try to find a spot to audition at CCPA.
MSM must have been a regular application. She has an audition scheduled.
@NewEngMTDad I’m glad to hear that your daughter is going to attend Unified auditions next weekend. Keep us posted.
UNCSA for my S yesterday (BFA Drama, no MT program offered at school). He enjoyed the campus and the friendly, engaging students. Informative and impressive info session for both parents and students after check-in. Auditions were fairly timely, staying within 45 minutes of scheduled time slots, lasting approx 10 minutes in the room. He did 2 monologues followed by 16 bars acapella, and was then asked for a 3rd monologue. Short interview (basic questions regarding: interests, challenges, inspiration, the program). He enjoyed the experience, and according to both parent and child, the new dean seems like an excellent addition to the school. Hope this helps!
Wishing your D all the best, @NewEngMTDad ! @beachymom sounds like your S’s audition went very much like my D’s. I think by the time she went in the room, they were >1 hour behind. But I felt like it was because they were really taking time with each kid, which I appreciate so much.
@NewEngMTDad my son is a freshman MT major at CCPA if you have any questions. BAL to your daughter!!
We were at Texas State callbacks on campus this weekend. What a beautiful campus and an amazing program! Unfortunately, my daughter absolutely loved everyone there and the program but it is super competitive so we will have a long anxious wait! If you are headed there in Feb. the auditions were very well run and Kaitlin Hopkins, Jim Price and Michael M. were all super friendly and tried to put the kids at ease. Great audition experience!
My son auditioned at Pace Friday. Audition experience was great! Loved every member of the faculty. Everyone was so great and extremely encouraging. He was asked to sing three songs and two monologues. They spent some time working with him on the second.
After on campus audition it definitely went up on his list.
Does anyone know if it is possible to do a walk-in for a school you have applied to already but have not yet auditioned for? For instance, my daughter has an audition scheduled with UArts in March, but if there is a walk-in available at Unifieds could she do that in lieu of the on-campus one? Or are walk-ins strictly for those who have not applied?
@collegemom2000 i think for U Arts that would work. Just let them know.
@collegemom2000 If you don’t mind me asking, how do you know that UArts has walk-ins? Is it on their website? I was hoping to be able to do some research to see which schools are doing walk-ins at Unifieds. Thanks!
@jenniferm1973 I think you just have to ask their monitor outside their audition room, or look for signage once you get to the hotel. Good luck!
