Class of 2022 (the journey); sharing, venting, discussing

@Naevia, no matter how much we prepare them for rejection (and they prepare themselves), it still stings a bit.

@DramaQueen219 we are at UM this week for my S audition on Friday. Feel free to PM me.

BAL to everyone @Unifieds this weekend!

Any tips for NYC Unifieds this weekend?

BAL to everyone auditioning this weekend! Good vibes…

Break a leg everyone at NYC Unifieds!

D made a very interesting observation at one of her early auditions. She had gone to the school a day prior to audition day to observe classes. During the dance call the next day, she believes some of the current students were taking part in the dance call (as auditionees). She says she is not 1,000 percent sure but she’s pretty sure. It is a reminder always, always, always to act professionally. You just never know!

@artskids my S thought this happened at one school in 2015. I wouldn’t be surprised if it happened more than we realize.

^^^yes - S also thought it happened at least once in 2014 as well. It is certainly one way to get intel!

They were pretty obvious about it at NYU Tisch, SUNY Purchase and Wagner in 2014 – and those are the ones we actually noticed! When a program has current students “helping” at auditions, I guess it really means “info gathering.”

True but these kids were not just helping shepherd the candidates and they did not identify themselves as students. They took part in the dance call as if they were auditioning. I thought it was quite sneaky! My older kids have helped with auditions from time to time at their respective schools but not as candidate “plants.” TBH, it’s pretty brilliant

They definitely did not identify themselves as student helpers. My S also works auditions for his program. They have audition shirts in a bright color and are clearly identified as helping. This is not what he witnessed at one dance call in 2015, the students blended into dance call.

@artskids that’s interesting. In your post did you stay what school this was , or are you keeping hush-hush about it?

Pace and NYU definitely identified their student helpers, and both groups for the dance calls were so small that you can tell they were all auditioners.

I don’t think NYU, Purchase, or Wagner were trying to be sneaky in 2014 (or now, for that matter) - it simply occurred to me now, four years later, that even student helpers can gather intelligence. Auditioners, keep it real!

Not sure I want to mention the school since D is not 1000% sure. None of the student helpers had identifying shirts or IDs either day.

@artskids, my daughter noticed it too 3 years ago.

I agree that students are observing and giving feedback… we were at a top 20 program last Saturday. My D was scheduled for 1:10 … second slot after lunch break … we arrived 40 minutes early and were in a waiting area with 4 juniors in the program handling check in along with the admin head they were chatty and inquiring … the slot before us was a no show so the head of the program came out and asked my D if she was ready … she popped up and followed him down the hall… meanwhile another girl was already there when we arrived. when my D finished the head of program walked her out (humming the song she sang) and said who do we have next and the student says another no show… the Head looks at the only girl sitting in waiting area and said are you ready to go?.. one of the students in charge of check in said she isn’t scheduled til 2:20 he asked her do you want to go now … after about a ten second pause she said no… big mistake based on his expression … also the students tried to engage her in conversation she wasn’t interested except to say her hometown … my D said maybe she is really shy… no matter …when the head of the program says are you ready i think it’s best to say yes! this was a BFA Acting audition

@Mom2E - ouch!!!

This is probably a really stupid question… but… any CCM applicants out there- on the portal they list “forms”. We filled out the audition registration form a while back obviously- but do we need to do any other forms? Medical release and parental consent? I can’t tell if they are on there for other purposes or if we need to submit them for an audition? (And we are auditioning at Chicago Unifieds- not on campus). Doesn’t seem to be forms that they would need for the auditioners?! Anyone know what I’m referring to? Thanks!

My S will audition at unifieds as well, and I did fill out the forms. I can’t remember what they were anymore…maybe a medical waiver and the standard legalese waiving right to sue if your kid is injured? In any case, I figured it wasn’t that much effort, and I didnt want to cause any issues with the audition.
