Class of 2022 (the journey); sharing, venting, discussing

@fancytheatrekid That is the norm for UMich based on our experience last year. It is important you attend in the morning as that is where your child will check in and receive their audition packet which includes their dance call number. My daughter also had an afternoon audition time so after the info session which lasts about an hour we went for brunch at a cute restaurant in Ann Arbor then went back to our hotel where she had time to rest and warmup before we checked out and headed back for her audition and dance call.

Thanks @sopranomtmom Remember the name of the restaurant?

Anyone- good hotel near University of Michigan auditions?

@fancytheatrekid I don’t which restaurant sopranomtmom was referring to but Zingerman’s in Ann Arbor is a great restaurant to eat at.

@fancytheatrekid as for hotels in that area check out Hampton Inn Ann Arbor North or Residence Inn. These are nice hotels close to the North Campus where the Theatre dept. is

Is anyone heading to FSU this weekend?

@fancytheatrekid last weekend we stayed at the Hampton Inn Ann Arbor West which was within 10-15 minutes of campus. The service was great and the rooms were comfortable. I would definitely recommend Zingermans at some point during the weekend as their sandwiches and soups are delicious. Feel free to PM me for more information.

@fancytheatrekid Just a heads up, there are no hotels with in walking distance of North Campus and parking can be difficult so leave time. Savas on State Street in town is great for brunch.

I’ve found that when looking for hotels near the colleges I check the college’s website for recommendations usually under a link like “plan your visit”. You may even be able to get a lower rate if you tell them you’re visiting the college.

HELP!! I was able to get an NYU audition at Chicago unifieds that starts at 2. However, my CCM Acting Audition is at 5:30. Will I be okay?

Whew, false alarm. Rescheduled for Sunday @ 9

my husband and daughter loved staying at the Graduate

@collegemom2000 having gone thru the process last year believe me when I say you can’t afford to take anything off your list. Believe me when I say I saw many last year with 19 schools zero offers. Us too were given stone faces and quick auditions and believe me it meant nothing. In fact some of the auditors are just office staff seeing one to many kids and pushy mom’s lol. In the end we were glad we had a wide net which ended up with our dream school Ithaca class of 2021 MT.

@lincoln56 oh believe me, we know MANY kids over the years who have applied to over 20 schools and gotten only a bite or none at all (talented kids with years of experience.) Congrats on the Ithaca acceptance!!

Anyone at CCM this weekend?

yup, that was my D’s experience too. Most were impassive, the most friendly were the top 10 schools-- all that means is they’re nice people who were enjoying what they were doing. Her left her first audition feeling blah because they were so disengaged. That night she decided that was the last time she was going to pick up on anything in the room and to her credit, she did 7 more auditions over the weekend and left them all behind. I’m taking my cue from her-- her mantra is “you can’t get attached to anything till you’re in.” I’d be lying if I said the zero acceptance possibility doesn’t plague me!! And we cast the widest net I have yet to hear of.

@fingerscrossedMT my D has 14 total schools (would have been 17 but three were failed pre-screens…do we count those in our total?) I feel like 14 is not enough, although she does have a wide variety and four are locals that do not do Unifieds so figure they don’t see as many kids. I was going to have her apply to Christopher Newport as a last minute safety, but after looking at their program I’m not sure now. So we take our chances I guess. At least she already has half-a-dozen academic acceptances so she can always go somewhere, just not for MT.

@collegemom2000 does your D have any safeties that she would be happy to attend? My daughter ended up at her safety and is thriving. Will graduate in May

@bisouu yes she does, but she hasn’t been accepted yet.

Is anyone going to CMU this weekend? I would love to spend the day with a fellow CC parent.
