At UT you can use 3’s for AP credit. If you search there is a list. I believe she has credit for like 40 hours and she didn’t even claim them all because she had more than she needed for certain areas (ie foreign language). You have to pay $10 for each credit you claim so she has 6 credits that she will not be claiming. That is the only one she got a 3 in but she didn’t take the AP course for that. At our school they tell you if you take the Honors 4 course then you should take the AP test if you don’t plan on taking the AP course because most kids can get at least 3 on the test. All her other scores were 5’s except 2 others. I don’t think those really played much of a factor in her admission though, but I do think the rigor of her courses did.
The only business course she took was Honors Accounting. She didn’t have any free periods to take any other ones as she had a full load every semester. She was also in business clubs and had honors in that and maybe some schools consider AP Econ as somewhat of a business course. A lot of Texas students only have one semester of Econ. I can’t remember if it’s Micro or Macro but our school they cover both and then take both AP exams. She also did something similar to a business incubator program outside of school. I think that was the hook for her with Bhp. Something unique outside of school. Being a female and having a CS background has also helped her.
She would have gone to UT separate from BHP. She had already committed even before she was granted the BHP interview, so she was on board. She loves it. A lot of students also were able to transfer into BHP this year which was sort of surprising so there is hope for kids who don’t get in for freshman year.
