Class of 2024 MT Artistic Acceptance Notifications: How/When/Where

Humorous anecdote to pass the time. With all the schools on shutdown / delay, here is an exchange I had with my D yesterday:

Me: “Only 3 more months of high school. Sorry it may all be online. Is your computer working okay?”

D : “It’s okay. My graduation ceremony will be in Google Classroom. Oh, and I don’t have a computer. I have a Speak and Spell with a broken ‘Q’”

@DivaStageMom Skidmore was high on my DS’s list before he realized he wanted pre professional MT training. We did visit the beautiful campus Spring 2019, and were told by our knowledgeable student tour guide that there is no academic MT, however that this year there would be one academic production. That must have been Cabaret. My son did not apply and his non audition MT program ended up being Santa Clara U, which does have academic MT, though not pre professional quality training. When we visited Skidmore there were student written/produced productions and much of the focus seemed on non traditional voices and narratives.

@allfour1 - Thanks we have a lot of balls in the air right now… D applied to 14 audition schools and 7 BA Theater. She has 3 BFA acceptances, 1 WL, and 3 more to go - one her top choice - which would be a home run both MT wise and academically.

Unfortunately, the 3 BFA MT’s she is accepted to are not very academic and she is starting to stress about this. So Skidmore is the first BA Theater we heard from and she was excited about it. I went on the Skidmore thread but it’s not theater related like this is. So any information would be helpful - maybe I should start my own thread. Thanks for the info!

People were posting that they got letters from Western CT last week. Did anybody else get a letter? We are still waiting on our letter

We got an email from W. Michigan stating that they are behind in their roll-out of decisions and they appreciate our patience. No date offered for when they expect to begin notifications, but a very enthusiastic welcome to questions if anyone had them.

@DorkyDad we have not received our letter from Western Connecticut either! Very frustrating…

Agreed. This is a bit crazy.

I mean, really… if academics are important, then she probably doesn’t want a BFA. There are minimal core requirements for most of these programs. My son probably got most of them via dual credit in High School. Apparently, they just sing and dance all day

@DivaStageMom everything is shifting with COVID shutting down performances, and DS’s Dad and I had a conversation about how to discuss the potential that BFA programs may have to be deferred for a year if everything isn’t back up online by Fall. At this time a more academic option in the mix is not a bad one, especially as many of those classes can probably be done online. Don’t think BFA performance can be, though maybe they will come up with workarounds. There are many artistic kids from my son’s very academic high school who are happy at Skidmore. They do have an excellent music program and an excellent dance program. I’m sure it would work for a kid who can put it all together, my DS is not that kind of a kid and would be happier with a set structure. Skidmore is not Yale, but it is challenging and academic enough for the smart kids we know who are there. Lots of outdoors activities, and very cozy campus culture. Saratoga Springs is beautiful and has a lot of music and theater in town. My DS applied to those not especially academic schools but has been accepted to the Honors Programs–those are smaller classes and can sometimes be applied to after arriving on campus. Is that an option at your BFAs? Feel free to email me through this portal if this is becoming too detailed and specific.

@allfour1 - Thanks - and yes this has been the problem all along with she wants a good program and a good school - very hard to accomplish - we have 3 more BFA’s to hear from and ironically those are good fits for both, and she was waitlisted at Emerson - also meets her academic standards - so maybe that will open up. Thanks for the help - if none of the BFA’s come through I will PM to find out more on Skidmore - it sounds very nice. Thanks

@allfour1 my son’s voice lessons at Montclair have already started via facetime. not sure what they are going to do about acting and dance, but he’s planning on heading back this weekend because all of his clothes are there.

My D just got an email that CCC is extending deadline to June 1st and that they expect their BFA and BMus decisions to be out by April 1. They said to “check your inbox for those messages”, so assuming that means email notifications.

Happy St. Patty’s Day all!

anyone having trouble logging in to American portal? They’ve sent decisions, my D cannot access.

Hartt just called my phone and it was the school president who sent out a robo call. In it it said they are working on maintaining admittance issues w covid but “we look forward to welcoming you soon”. All fine. If you hadn’t sent out rejection letter. Just a heads up…if you see a call from Hartford on your kids phone.

American University admission decision today–admit for us! future eagle portal then decision letter link
