Was the Chancellor’s Honors Program just released? My son got an email saying he was admitted to it but we weren’t sure if it had been announced before and he just didn’t see it or if this is a recent development…
My son will likely go to University of Florida since the in-state tuition is covered with Bright Futures but I really think he would have liked UTK, especially in the honors program. The dorms certainly look way nicer!
Chancellors Honor Program <> Chancellors Scholarship. You can be part of the Chancellor Honor Program but not get the Chancellors Scholarship as far as I know.
I think It is better to ask them instead of waiting at this point.
Thanks - not that pressed as we are waiting for this as a final data point from UTK, but S21 is about 99% sure he’s enrolling elsewhere.
A friend of my son’s who initially was not accepted to the leadership honors program (not sure of exact name of that program ) did just get notified she made it in off the waiting list. Not sure if that info helps anyone…
Sure, yes, there is no point asking if he is not much interested in UTK. Wish him all the best. I’m sure he will get good merit scholarships from the university he is more interested in.

Thank you for the good wishes! The irony is that where he’s headed, there will be no merit aid (in-state at UVA). UTK made it very attractive in the first place and it may well become more so financially, but the draw of staying closer and going to his top choice since he was a little kid won out in the end. Wishing you and your S21 the best as well, hope the end is in sight!

Thanks for the wishes. UVA is an excellent choice. We cannot compare UTK with UVA if it is affordable. Graduating from a top school like UVA means a lot.

Good Luck. It is ironic how all this filters out. I feel bad really for some of these kids trying to get into schools that others easily get into, but do not choose. D has great offer from UTK OOS and great offer from UVA OOS, but UVAs ending place is UTKs starting place. So, UTK it is… which is a great fit, loves the city and affordable. But she is turning down other kids dream school including 2-3 other prominent schools.

Thanks for the kind note. There was absolutely nothing we didn’t love about UTK through the correspondences and our visit, and I think your D21 will have a great experience over the next four years. Fascinating how all the movement with deposits, declines, and waitlists will play out, and really hoping that all kids end up where they are meant to be!

Just curious as we are starting to look for D22. Is UTK direct admit? Or they accept you into pre-nursing and then you reapply for upper division courses?
UTK has a direct admit program.

Yes. Although I know a current student who started out in education, and then switched to nursing and was admitted to the nursing program as a rising junior. She is definitely an outlier (and got lucky IMO), and that is certainly not the preferred way to do it.
