So I got in to UP for the summer. Does anyone know when I start in the summer and finish? Because I wanted to know if I have to cancel my early june plans or not.
My portal just says “your application has been updated, check back soon for a status update.” Has this happened for anyone else ?Also any idea when I would receive my decision bc 12/24 was the last day for EA.
I got rejected from University Park but accepted into my second choice campus.
OOS from CA
3.85 UW, 4.44 W GPA
No SAT (unable to take it)
Decent essays, and lots of EC’s and leadership positions
Will deny the second choice campus
Definitely caught me off guard since I really thought I was going to get in. Congrats to all the accepted kids!!
@classof2025girl What major did you apply for? A 2+2 with those stats only makes sense for a few majors.
My DS finally got the accepted message in the portal this morning for engineering.
I’m not sure how to tell if he has to start summer though?
It says in the decision letter Fall or summer 2021
The program runs during Summer Session II. That is 6 weeks with classes starting June 30 and ending Aug 11. Last year it looks like students arrived a couple of days earlier. I think the official program is called Learning Edge Academic Program (LEAP) - someone correct me if I’m wrong - and there is a website - LEAP Program at University Park | Summer Session
I believe last year’s summer session was online. I’m thinking strong possibility for that again this year.
Here’s a link to FAQs for LEAP Summer ‘21 -
LEAP FAQs | Summer Session
At this point it looks like there will be options of in-person or online.
Thank you! Very helpful info!! my ds has to do summer and I’m trying to convince him to do it. He feels he is missing his last summer with his friends (after having a dismal senior year of cancellations) but he also loves Penn State. So…
First thing to do is double check you were there for early action. On the right side of the portal it says early action yes or something like that.
If you were you should have received something by today be it an acceptance, deferral, or denial. If you did not get that I would call but I believe their office is now closed for a week so you may have to wait until January.
I’m sorry. I’m sure this is frustrating.
I wasn’t sure mine would want to do it, either, but he is getting used to the idea. The remote option, although it won’t have all the intended benefits, would be a compromise and allow students to take classes/meet students/get to know Penn State, but stay at home at little longer.
My D21 was accepted into Nursing Altoona campus. She applied to UP so she is disappointed. She had pretty decent GPA (4.5 W, 3.7 UW), 2 sports all 4 years, 5APs, most other classes were honors where offered, high rigor, decent ECs. Her SAT was on the low side (1240), but she submitted anyway since we felt they would know she had taken it. Most kids in her PA high school apply to Penn State UP and many get in. She is bummed, but has 4 other schools that accepted her for nursing that all have great reputations (Delaware, Temple, Drexel, Duquesne). Still waiting for 2 other schools. Of course, I know she’ll end up at the right place, but it’s going to take a little more time for her to see it.
@HKMmom I know she is disappointed. Nursing is probably one of the toughest - if not THE toughest college - because they have so many great candidates and are small. And direct entry.
Many come to love Altoona in spite of it being their 2nd choice… I would do a deep dive before she definitely says no.
Good luck.
If she was accepted to PSU UP for nursing would she get to stay there for 4 years or do they have to go to Hershey for their second 2 years for hospital experience?
My application still says under review but the early action status s says yes should I even look for a decision today?
UP nursing is 3 years at UP and 1 year at Hershey. From what I understand, the 1 year could be Junior or Senior year.
Altoona nursing is all 4 years at Altoona. No Hershey.
I’m sorry she did not get her first choice of campus. I’m a big Penn State fan but I don’t love that the kids would get settled and happy at UPark and then have to leave early and go to Hershey. Your daughter has some great choices that have the hospital right there near campus. Best of luck to her.
Thanks @frostymom. I agree with you about Hershey! She doesn’t see it that way yet, but she’ll come around. It’s funny she was lukewarm on the program in the beginning of the school year but then they all get caught up in this whole process (and who is going where) and somewhere along the line she decided this was one of her top choices. I mean, what’s not to love about Penn State? But, I agree, she’ll end up at a great place for her.
mine is like this too !
