Anyone received RD application decision yet?
Hey guys so I applied to Penn State Oct. 1, 2020, and they received all of my materials on October 2, 2020 (written in portal). I applied rolling admission (UW GPA: 3.49, W GPA: 3.88 tons of leadership and organizing activities) and still have not received a decision. I emailed them over a month ago asking when decisions may be released on my application and they said sometime within the next few weeks likely. It feels odd to not have received a decision yet. They didn’t even ask for my mid-year grades or anything just no updates. Has anyone else had this problem? The same thing has happened to me with the same dates for Pitt
Decisions for the rolling applications are expected by Jan 31. Typically you will see the following as part of the “Application Status” box in the portal.
“… We have received everything required to complete your application…”. Your counselors may have sent mid-year grades by default, but it is not mandatory to submit those.
My son applied August 2nd Rolling with a completed SRAR. He has not heard back yet either. He was told Jan 31 when he emailed them. Hang in there…
Good evening, what time does the University post acceptance/denial? My son just noticed his test optional button is gone. Assuming the results are coming
Usually around midnight
Can a student who was accepted to DUS in early November request to be evaluated instead for Smeal? (High stats kid that just didn’t decide on major at the time the app was submitted).
I would imagine it couldn’t hurt to request re-evaluation. If request denied, then the original offer still stands.
My son just got accepted today after reevaluation to UP for DUS in Summer '21. He was 2+2 Smeal starting in Altoona.
Morning, my son received his acceptance but I don’t see any financial info. Does that come later?
Yea but don’t expect any. PSU doesn’t typically give $
My daughter after reevaluation from original 2+2 Altoona ( put no to Summer option ) for Psych major was admitted for UP Fall for DUS!!!
Stats:
Gpa 4.0
Act 31
5 Ap
Rest honors
Plenty of EC and volunteer
OOS
Congratulations to your daughter! Kind of mind boggling she got the 2+2 offer in the first place!
@OceanIsle Any kid who intends to major in Business (ie. Smeal) can also start in DUS. All kids have to meet a certain GPA threshold and meet ETM (entrance to major) requirements. Honestly, unless he is applying for Sapphire Leadership Program or wants a Smeal advisor immediately, is just fine starting in DUS.
here are another comment I posted about people concerned about starting in DUS vs. Smeal:
- No one is “in” their major until ETM (entrance to major) requirements are met. Involves 8 classes for Smeal and a specific credit window. All ETM classes can be taken as Smeal PMAJ (pre major) or DUS (undecided).
He can certainly call Admissions, but I would verify that his original DUS offer wouldn’t go away.
My D was accepted Biochemistry for summer UP and requested to be reconsidered DUS for fall admission. She verified with admissions that her original offer still stands regardless of the reconsideration decision. Admissions said it won’t show on the portal, but all she has to do is call/email and they will have it on record.
But yes, I would definitely verify that if your kiddo goes that route.
I know!! I thought the same. Thanks!!
Unless he is intent on having a smeal advisor from the start, I wouldn’t bother. Any student with an intended smeal major can work towards that major from DUS or smeal pre major. No one is in their major until after they complete the entry to major requirements - which would be the exact same regardless of whether the student is in DUS or smeal premaj.
Just curious, did they give your daughter a time frame on how long it would take to re-evaluate her change in major/colleges?
For my son, it took about a month (but that included Christmas break when they were closed). We asked to reevaluation on 12/18 and heard back on 1/21. I would assume 2-3 weeks.
