Class of 2025 Admissions DISCUSSION

Regarding “mandatory” summer session - it looks like it was online in 2020 due to Covid. Is online an option when Covid isn’t a factor or is the whole point “being in college” early.

I might be the annoying person, but I do feel like I need to say this. I am a professor … with a Ph.D. There is NOTHING wrong with the 2+2 option. Nothing. Young people (and sometimes their parents) get so caught up in social comparison, so please don’t feel like you are (or your child is) “less than” because of a 2+2 start.

You will still graduate with a Penn State degree. You will still have the rigor of Penn State courses … your professors at ALL campuses are experts in their own right.

While you won’t begin with the large-campus experience, there are some benefits to starting at a branch. Especially when being on your own for the first time. Especially in more rigorous majors … you will have smaller classes with more interaction with professors, which may translate to higher grades. Then, you can move to University Park for your major courses.

This is in no way meant to minimize being accepted to UP, but I sense that many don’t quite know how to feel about a 2+2 option. You should be proud of an acceptance at any campus! It’s a huge accomplishment.

no mine hasnt your liberal arts right?

Nope nothing I just don’t think any will this weekend

My D got into Bio Major (Pre-med) with 2+2 (Scranton, UP). We are completely confused with the 2+2 college campus allocation. What is the rationale behind this? We are very unclear what this means and didnt even know something like this was even done by Penn State.

We are OOS (CA). Does this have anything to do with OOS or GPA/SAT (or lack of) or Major or a combo of all of them?

We would really appreciate any light anyone can shed on this. Thanks!

@norcalfre look at the post above by @steady40 and few posts by @jlhpsu

I’m sure for many ppl it’s a great program. Personally, I know that my dd wants a “traditional” four year program. Meet friends freshman year without having to start over after transferring, join a sorority, etc… I guess it depends on the kid.

I know I’m really late but I had the same issue. I had an error saying something like “can’t access your application materials. Log out and check later”. Call and they have to fix it on their end.

@Jenutzki yes, same with my son

You pick your alternative campus. If you want a different one other then UP you can email admissions to change it.
