Did anyone get any notice about the Honors College?
S got honors acceptance today.
My S did too.
I got into honors college yesterdayâŠit was in my acceptance letter
My son had been deferred at the time of Early Action, but was accepted yesterday. No mention of any scholarship so should I assume that means he isnât getting one?
DD was deferred from EA, now waitlisted. OOS, no test scores.
The initial merit would usually come with the letter of acceptance. Sometimes a college might sweeten a deal as it gets closer to May 1st. If he didnât receive anything at this time, it would certainly not hurt to check in with the AO. Good luck to your son!
He received no mention of merit with the online notification of acceptance so I guess we would be full-fare at $58,000. If/when heâs ready to commit, I will make a call to the AO as you suggest. Thanks.
One thing good about starting in the spring is it will give the country more time to vaccinate people so when you start at UVM, perhaps everything will be normal. Also, in the fall, you can work and save money before starting college. If itâs your top choice, I wouldnât let that stop you from attending!
thanks! will keep everything in mindâŠ
same here!
You may end up getting offered fall admission, that happened to my boyfriend last year!
Fingers crossed!!
Have the financial aid decisions for UVM been announced yet, or will we get separate notification when thatâs ready?
Even though formal in-person tours are not allowed, can you still do a self-guided tour around campus? I know you canât go into buildings but hoping to at least see the grounds. Also, is the book store open to the public?
I reached out to ask this question. The response was no. The campus is closed to all visitors. You may not do a self guided tour. I asked if they anitcipated it would open any time before the 5/1 deadline and the response was that the no visitors policy was in effect for the entire spring semester. Too bad. My son received a nice package from them but I really canât see committing to a school that you canât even see. This is the only school he applied to that wonât allow you to at least walk around campus.
My son is applying to transfer in as a sophomore. We drove up, stayed in a hotel, walked on Church St. for a while, drove around the campus a bunch, etc. I didnât call in advance to ask, but we probably would have walked around the campus, too if it wasnât so cold and snowy. If youâre within a reasonable drive and your student is really interested and got a good package, I would visit anyways. The city of Burlington isnât closed, and you can get a better sense from a modified visit like we did than you can from a virtual visit. As long as you are masked up and outdoors? Just my 2 cents. Burlington is beautiful, and such a great little city!
Ty - that is great information. Did you come from out of state? We would be driving 4 hours from MA. I am fully vaccinated so donât need to worry about quarantining but he would probably have to quarantine ahead of time. Was there any issue from out of state staying in a hotel? Did you need to prove test/quarantine/vaccine etc?
It was just me and my son, and we drove up from CT about 4 hrs. We were in and out of VT in less than 24 hrs, so no quarantine necessary. We were super carefulâwe did contactless check-in and out on the Marriott app, ordered room service and had them leave it outside before opening the door. In the morning we ordered bfast from Starbucks app and did pickup, and got takeout lunch from a cafe on church street. We were double-masked the whole time we were out of the car. Other than the quick pickups of food, we had zero contact with other humans the entire time we were in VT. Oh, and when we got gas we paid at the pump and wore disposable gloves as well. I know it sounds extreme, but we were trying to be safe and respectful. No regrets.
Sorryâwe didnât interact with anyone at the hotel and nobody asked us to prove we were vaccinated or anything. No issues. I donât think you need to quarantine unless you plan to stay more than 24 hours in the state.
