Frost rejection here for voice for my DD. Hope it’s not a harbinger of the new few days.
I’m sorry-- deep breaths. I’m sure it is not a harbinger.
You got this!
@Themomofthem , My daughter also received a rejection from Frost. She was going for Media Scoring and Production with Voice as her instrument.
Try not to worry about your daughter. Mine got into both Berklee School of Music and Florida State College of Music with scholarship money. All of these music programs see way more talent than they have opportunities to offer. Frost told my daughter during her first visit that they were only going to be able to admit 7-10 scoring students this year out if hundreds if not thousands of applications. We knew those odds were slim. And especially with voice, you just never know what the program needs from year to year. If your child is a phenomenally talented Soprano and that school doesnt have need for any more Soprano’s, it doesn’t matter how talented they are. It is often not personal even though it’s hard not to feel that way when your child is disappointed.
I have faith that your daughter will land at a great program. Wishing you all the best!
Aw, y’all are so nice. This process has been so… much. I appreciate the post.
Waitlist for Oberlin (clarinet). Better than a rejection, but still tough.
Waitlisted as well.
No from Oberlin…
Son was accepted to Oberlin with scholarship for viola!
congratulations!!
Got into Oberlin (piano performance). Unfortunately my composition prescreen was rejected so it’s unlikely that I will go there.
Daughter was rejected from Oberlin conservatory and waitlisted from the college. Surprised about the college because her stats are higher than average. This is a rough one for her. She’ll move on but this was 1st choice.
DD got into Oberlin, both the Conservatory for voice and the College of Arts and Sciences. Got $$ from both but still leaves a hefty price tag. We’re visiting soon but not sure if we can swing it. Travel costs would be high because Cleveland/Oberlin is hard to get to from where we are. Also the double degree takes 5 years. A little disappointed…but we’ll check it out.
Trying to send some positive vibes to the rejections and waitlists. It can be a tough time.
My D did an exciting audition last month….she was invited to audition….and they never responded. Lol. They can’t even bother to reject her!?!
Oh well…feel free to be bummed out for awhile…everyone gets rejections, especially professionals! It does hurt…but it’ll pass. Hang in there.
Oy. These days are tough. Picked an awful day to misplace my phone - been waiting on pins and needles to hear from my BM applicant daughter on Oberlin. Wowed that we got in (BM trombone performance) with a small scholarship (cost is definitely going to be an issue for us). Takes a little sting out of some less-than-positive news from another school a few weeks ago. Reminder that the kids will win and lose some - all preparation for a brutal career full of more “no’s” than “yes betcha’s”. Continuing to wish all the best for all our kids - time and time again, I’ve seen kids end up where they belong, no matter how messy this phase is and how tough it feels.
Accepted to Oberlin double degree and WL from Miami. Waiting for 1 more. Good luck to all!
Is he going? My son was also accepted and it is his first choice!!! OMG!!!
Hooray for voice majors! Congrats. Hope it works out. It’s a great school!
I am sorry-- but I do want to say it is appreciated that people are posting the not so good news along with the good news. This board is such a great group of supportive, kind, knowledgeable people and we are here for each other!
I am certain your daughter will land somewhere that is right for her. You got this (and so does she)!
Thanks - I’m sure she’ll find her way… Just hope the rest of these decisions don’t drag out! This is going to be a long two weeks!!
Yes, I share because I want future folks to see the realities and not just the acceptances. Reading these threads has helped us tremendously to get a clearer picture of this crazy process! Letting her grieve this one for the weekend and then I’ll have her pick her favorite of what she has on her plate so far and then we’ll wait for the rest!
D accepted to vocal performance at Oberlin, with a specific voice teacher specified— that was unexpected. Do they usually assign the studio at the time of acceptance? Other schools don’t assign until classes begin. It’s helpful in decision-making since you know who you will be with should you choose to go!
