Class of 26 thread … where is it?

Thank you. He worked so hard and was so disappointed that UT doesn’t see his efforts when he knows a lot of other kids with lower stats and not auto admit that got into engineering. It has been a rough day.

I’m so sorry. He’s a great kid and has worked so hard. I know this is so disappointing. Hopefully the full scholarship in Honors Engineering at A&M will be something he can start to feel more excited about soon as the sting starts to wear off. Best of luck to him, though sounds like he will succeed no matter where he goes and doesn’t need any luck. He’ll make it happen.

So sorry to hear this. My son with similar stats is in similar situation and he heard back last week and we are still trying to process it! He is also considering the A&M full ride scholarship to Mays Business Honors program. Good luck to your son. I am sure both our kids will thrive whenever they land!

Even crazier is he just got into Georgia Tech from out of state (he applied withElectrical Engineering as his major). He is in defferment for MIT currently. UT needs to revisit its admission process. At least now he knows it is UT and not him!

Hi, I was an in-state non AA Government major who got CAP last night. I’m now committed to A&M for PoliSci, and I checked the portal at around 6:30pm yesterday to see my UT decision. I got an email telling me about my CAP offer (not to check the portal) at 10:05 this morning. So it looks like rather than 2 hours later like usual, the emails rolled out this morning instead.

Sadly, this is certainly not surprising news. 2 years ago, my daughter had a friend who was admitted to MIT, capped at UT. One got a full ride to Boston Univ, but capped at UT. Another, got into Emory-her parents both went to UT; Capped at UT. NO ONE should feel upset at getting capped at UT. Getting in is like winning the lottery. Add to that a record application year for most colleges. Sigh.

Then why did the other guys say no person closed the thread

I agree , I too know kids admitted to Ivies and CAPed at UT . It’s crazy . It’s literally almost not a guarantee for anyone , even auto admits . My older daughter got into ChemE non auto a few years ago … indeed we NEVER expected her to even though she was qualified and we approached the college search with that in mind ( she was going to attend Purdue at first ) .

My younger daughter got CAP offer last night ( non auto) even though her intended major was in liberal arts. Good luck to everyone that got in but those who did not will still be super successful elsewhere !

It was inadvertent. Nothing malicious was intended. We certainly don’t want to shut down any conversation for UT Austin!

What specifically did UT Admissions do that was “not of good integrity?”

It’s not crazy. I am always surprised when people are surprised by things like this. While California has (I think) 9 schools in the US News top 50, Texas only has 2 (and Rice is awesome but tiny). Just about all of the top tier high school students in our nation’s 2nd largest state are competing for a small number of CS, Engineering and Business seats at UT.

Sorry to hear it happened to you too. We didn’t see it coming at all, especially since he was top 1% auto admit (and his stats are top 1% of the engineering school). So many kids he knows got in out of top 6% and with significantly lesser stats. I have no idea what happened (he did all the essays and “optional” items). Trying to keep the perspective that sometimes closed doors lead to better open doors. But I think it is hard when we have no idea of why.
