Class order question

Which classes did you guys finish first
your IGETC classes or your major pre-reqs first?
What are the advantages or disadvantages?
Or did you guys balance it out Ex) in a quarter system, 2 IGETC classes and 1 major pre-req per quarter, ectec

That completely depends on your major. What is yours?

Economics my good sir.

Major: Chem

This is only my second semester at my ccc and the course pattern you want depends on a lot of things like: conflicting schedules, class availability at some ccc.

My first semester I took gen chem 1 with classes like econ, psych, engl, so this sem I took gen chem 2 with engl and this summer I’ll take stats and some other humanities courses.

The only problem with this approach is that im going to take bio, calc 1, physics together next semester.

The best way would to balance everything, but sometimes with science lab courses you tend to care less about the igetc classes, usually resulting in lower grades when you should be getting easy A’s. The humanities can usually be taking in bunches during the summer also.

Sir?! Since I started off as a science major, I was supposed to take my lower level science/math classes before I finished my IGETC because they are each 3-4 consecutive classes which will take 4 semesters. (Ex. Gen Chem 1 —> Gen Chem 2 —> Ochem 1 –> Ochem 2). Unfortunately, I did not do this and I got stuck at my CC an extra year finishing pre-reqs. By your question, I can’t tell if you’re at a CC or preparing for it… but regarding Econ & the IGETC, if I were a freshman, I would take my English classes ASAP along with Calc (pretty sure econ requires this). Most of the IGETC can be fulfilled with a huge variety of classes so I’d focus on getting done with some of the Econ pre-reqs you have to take first, so you don’t get stuck at the last minute missing a ton of pre-reqs and not being able to take them the semester you intended. As opposed to if you were missing a Humanities class required for IGETC, you probably have a bunch to choose from your last semester.

Unless you were preparing to TAG somewhere. In that case, I think they often require you to have certain classes completed by Fall Semester.

If you were planning on transferring after 2 years you obviously would have to take the courses required, but some schools like UCSD require igetc completion.

ECON MAJOR OVER HERE!!
i didnt even decide to major in econ until my second year, so i took all IGETC classes first then went back and took the prereqs. im still taking two prereqs right now and i got into the school i wanted. i recommend doing it my way because it will keep ur GPA high with all those random IGETC classes. Hooowweeever, i should have signed a TAG but i guess it doesnt matter now
