Plz respond this is super urgent. So I just finished my AP Calculus AB exam and I feel like I am borderline between a 3 and a 4. I did amazing on the MC and bombed the FRQ. Idk how… So I was wondering, how does math class placement work at Lehigh? Do I take a placement test? What if I did bad on my placement test and am placed into algebra or something? If I pass my AP Calc exam, does it mean I 100% go to Calculus BC in college? Someone please explain! If I don’t get AP Calc credit, can I place into lower classes like geometry or algebra?
Also I am a business major and Im pretty sure I need math classes to do business. What if I don’t meet the requirements or something for my major if i get placed in a low math class? HELP???!!!
You need a 4 or a 5 on AB calc to get credit for Calc ! at Lehigh. Not sure about the placement test. I have heard that if you can test out of Calc 1 you should do it.
@asil65 “I have heard that if you can test out of Calc 1 you should do it.”
The administrators told us it is a good idea to retake it. The engineering students all said that it is a lot of work, and you are way better off getting out of it. lol
They don’t teach geometry or algebra at Lehigh. You’ll simply take calculus.
@sparklyleo ok thats a sign of relief! thanks!!!
I am always amazed that obviously smart students – admitted to Lehigh after all – bypass the extensive online info about math placement that Lehigh provides and look to CC instead. @darkhound173 needs to do your homework!
Hi darkhound! Congratulations on getting accepted to Lehigh. They have a fantastic business school with amazing alumni connections! I don’t mean to hurt your feelings, but between a 3 and 4 is not a score, in my opinion, that would show you know the material well enough to skip the class. I would really recommend you just taking the class and working hard to do really well in it! I think CC is a good place for you to get everyone’s opinion on those AP classes. My opinion is se the AP credits for classes that have nothing to do with your major. Best of luck and keep us posted!
From the Lehigh University Course Catalog regarding AP:
Mathematics
Four semester hours of credit for MATH 021, Calculus I, are granted to those who earn grades of 4 or higher on the Calculus AB examination. To those who earn a grade of 4 or higher on the Calculus BC examination, eight hours of credit are granted for MATH 021 and MATH 022, Calculus I and II. Credit for MATH 021 and MATH 022 or both may also be earned by passing the examination offered by the Mathematics Department during Freshman Orientation. Students regardless of whether they have taken the advanced placement examination may take this examination or not.

For College of Business and Economics Students, the only math course that is required is Math 021(Calc 1) OR Math 081 (Calculus with business applications).
Hope this helps…
@Jersey88 Hi, so if I pass the mathematics exam at freshmen orientation, I do not need to take any math class through my 4 years of high school since I’m in the college of business and economics right?
@darkhound173 I think you meant your 4 years of college LOL. According to the course catalog, you can pass the test and get credit for Math 21, Math 22 or both. Hopefully you get a 4 or better on your AP Calc AB so you get the credit for Math 21 and won’t even have to take the test. There are a lot of credits you will need to take as a business student outside of the College of Business and Economics. If you are a good math student, you might choose to take a math classes as an elective. My daughter who just finished her freshman year in the business school, got AP credit for Calc so she didn’t need to take Math 21 (a requirement for CBE). She chose to take Math 12 (Basic Statistics) first semester as an elective which was a pretty easy class for her. This class really helped her for Eco45 which is a requirement for CBE students. A lot of the material she learned in Math 12 was taught again in Eco45. Good luck!
@Jersey88 whoops ur right my bad xD Thanks for the help!!! Greatly appreciated!
