Class rank and scholarships - what if your HS doesn't rank?

@eandesmom - Sorry. This must be very frustrating for you. I wish the folks who make these decisions had to negotiate NPC’s and all of the myriad college paperwork necessary to get a handle on the real cost of college.

@eandesmom That is crazy. We did not even have to ask the GC to call. She volunteered. I wouldn’t push the envelope at this point, especially is you need a recommendation.

@Agentninetynine thanks, I actually do understand where she is coming from, there isn’t anything she can do other than reinforce to the school that she can’t provide it. In a way I wish I’d known and thought to look last spring before they did away with ranking but at that point I wasn’t versed in what was in Naviance and that would be the only place it would have been, it has never been showing the main transcript area which is not part of Naviance.

The reality is, we are likely gapped the school in question anyway, even with what I think “may” be his percentile. The question will become whether or not they offer what I think they should based on what I think his rank may be and then if the gap is really worth it. It’s all assuming S even applies there so it may be moot, though at the moment it’s high on his list.

@Googie31 Large public school, each GC has about 300 kids and she is swamped with seniors I am sure. I can’t see our GC’s making any kind of useful recommendations for any of the kids, that’s going to have to come from selecting the right teachers for sure. She did comment on his rigor to me and I am sure will get that across and there isn’t a whole lot else she can really do. Too many kids for them to know more than just stats, the rest will be inference based on what she knows of course loads.

@eandesmom My apologies. We were very lucky and my D’s whole 4 year high school had only 300 or so students!! Not that we live in a small town, but she attended a county-wide career academy that she had to apply to and be accepted. There were about 80 in her class. We were very spoiled.
