Class Rank for Admission Purposes

I was completing the application online for UC Berkeley, and I’ve realized that there is no place for class rank.

Since berkeley does not require/want counselor recommendation, and there’s no slot on the app for class rank, does this mean they do not care about it? Also, is it ok if I mention it in my essay?

This is very strange. Berkeley says that they admit students based on how well they have performed in the context of their specific high schools. I think that Class Rank shows that performance much better than UC-calculated GPA.

The UCs will calculate your GPA when you send in your grades. Due to the fact that many high schools have different ways to calculate class rank, the UCs do it themselves. In this way, the GPA is "standardized."

They should already have sent out letters to those who qualified as Eligibility for Local Context, so if you didn't receive one then you're out of luck. Nevertheless, if you go to a very competitive high school then it's okay if you don't qualify as ELC.

Best of luck. Hope this cleared your questions.

Thanks for replying!

I'm an out-of-state student, so ELC does not apply to me. It's not the end of the world if they don't consider high school's specific class rank. However, mine is really good (4 / 1251 ) at a Blue Ribbon public school in Texas and it could have helped me tremendously.

Whats up with texas and huge classes?
I thought mine was large at 660

A friend lives in the Woodlands and goes to a 1000 plus class school.

bumpppppppp
