Class Rank Question

Question: How important is class rank - how important is the difference between valedictorian and salutatorian?

So I go to a little school where I've been hanging on to my #1 rank and taking all the AP and honors classes that are offered and getting almost all A+'s. Not to sound pompous and stuffy, its like the only thing I had going for me. :)

This year (junior) some bright student from a huge public high school across the country that offers every kind of AP there is transferred to my small average rural Christian school. We can only take AP's junior and senior year. I'm not sure if his old school GPA got averaged in or not, but long story short, I'm #2 now and he is #1. I know I sound obsessive and stuffy saying this, but I'm really bummed I lost my #1 spot and feel like I'm at a bit of a disadvantage, because I worked really hard to keep my grades up. Then again I guess its not really fair for him if they did it any other way.

So yeah, has anyone else experienced this? Will it even matter that I'm #2 and not #1 (out of 57) when applying to colleges? Am I sweating the small stuff? :) Thanks guys...

They’ll know he transferred and what not. It shouldn’t matter much if at all. Harvard rejects Valedictorians left and right! GL :)

Either way, the colleges will know you had a high GPA. However, it depends on where you apply to, because, like said above, chances aren’t just about grades. What about extracurricular activities? Your ACTs/SATs? Awards/honors? It’s all about being well-balanced.
