i'm afraid i won't get into a decent college(ucla, ucb) because of my stupid freshman grade.

Jose, since you're interested in some UC's, I would call them directly & ask that question. You can call anonymously. They should be able to provide you with that answer. Also, they should also have e-mail opportunities with current students, who might know the answer. Don't give up!!

but can my freshman grade really hurt me where they don't even take freshman grades into account?

is there a possibility that they will look at the class ranks only in soph/junior year like ellemenope said?

Yes, there is a possibility. (I said that, too.) But I'm not a UC expert overall; I just know what they do for ELC. I would think, though, that it would be logical for UC to use only soph/jr. even for non-ELCs. (Why count 3 yrs in one case, 2 yrs. in the other, more demanding, case? That would be counter-intuitive, as they say.)
Just call them tomorrow; get the answer.

thanks classicist
you were a great help

I'm pretty confused right now. I was under the impression that UCs didn't even see your transcript until you had been accepted (therefore, no class rank.) Did I make a big mistake in not sending in my transcript?

If your counselor likes you he might be able to recalculate your class rank based on your soph-junior years for those schools.

leggomyeggo, I thought that the coll. counselor sends the transcript out. (Does at my school.) Registrar provides to GC, who sends out directly from the h.s. GC's are supposed to be familiar with all this, as long as you let him/her know that you're applying to U.C.(have applied), they're supposed to send the transcript. (Other colleges also ask for a Secondary School Report from the GC, but U.C. does not ask for that.)
I've never heard of a college that accepts a transcript sent directly from a student. Those are called "non-official," and they are not accepted because they are vulnerable to tampering. This has been true to my knowledge from the beginning of Time.

I worded my response wrong... What I meant was that I wasn't aware that we were supposed to have had our school mail out transcripts yet. Am I too late?

it doesn't make sense for the UC's or Stanford to not look at your freshman grade, but look at the class rank including your freshman grade does it?

I hope they view the class rank without the freshman year added.

You don't send in transcripts to UCs until after you are admitted.
