Class rank troubles

I just got my class rank today and my average. I was quite pleased with the average (96.41), but not so happy when I found out I was ranked 15/360.

I hope I don't sound like those (I got 2300 should I retake?) people; Am I not wrong in this being a legitimate concern?

I go to a public school on LI, which isn't one of the ones there that is well known or is one of the better ones, but its somewhere around 500 on the top 1,200 schools, so its not that bad. My counselor said that this is the most competitive class we've ever had, explaining why this average now got me 15 when last year it would put me in one of the top 5 students. Asking her if the colleges will know from the class profile how competitive it is in my class in comparison with previous years, she said not really.

Now I have to rethink my whole entire yale sentiment. Now, i'm utterly expecting a rejection. no way someone ranked 15 at a normal public school will get in. Hell, the only match I picked was Tufts, and now even that is a slight reach now. Am I too hard on myself, or should I indeed lower my expectations for yale considerably as to not put myself through so much pain?? lol.

I think it depends what the highest gpa, or in your case, average, of the class is.

Like, if your valedictorian's average was say, 96.5, then it's really no big deal
but if his/her average is like 100 (or whatever is ridiculously high compared to yours) then it might look pretty bad.

but despite everything, of course you still have a chance. :-)

hahahah, my class rank is 29/330 but i'm still pretty convinced i'll get into at least one of my top places (knock on wood).

don't worry about it. you're in the top 5% and that's fine...

jeeezzz

freeasia - lol no, the valedictorians is like a high 97. I wasnt expecting that, but something like 5-8. I said to myself I could be happy with 12 but 15...aghhh
