I'm a little bit confused as to whether colleges look at actual letter grades vs GPA or class rank. You see, I did badly in a math class last (sophomore) year, and got a B first semester, a C second semester. As I'm going into the humanities field, I was hoping this wouldn't hurt me.

I've just found out that I'm ranked third in the class. Now this may very well change, as we rank by weighted grades (and nearly all my classes are weighted). My question is whether the colleges will put less weight on my actual grades if my rank or actual GPA is higher? And do colleges recalculate GPA once they receive the application?
