My school didn't rank and I graduated with an avg. GPA which was the 5th best in my class of 73. My counselor wrote that the school doesnt rank, and I have no way to convey this. How would Princeton know where I stood in the class? How does having no rank, make a difference?

In your case, I don't think it really makes a difference. Princeton is loaded with people who graduated in the top few places in their class, so unless you are valedictorian the specific number isn't really an asset. What they are going to look at is your transcript, which will accurately reflect your academic abilities within your school. At a certain point, minor GPA differences don't matter anymore, hence schools increasing focus on transcript over rank.

thanks. I didnt have the chance to be valedictorian either because they wanted the student to be in the school for 3 semesters or more. I had been there for only 2. Transferred 3 schools in my 3 years of high school.

Another q. how much emphasis does princeton put on APs vs. SAT IIs. I got a 5 in Physics B, and 4s in Calc AB, English Lit, and Stats., but pretty dismal SAT IIs: 690 Physics, 680 IIC?
