Class rank

I am in the top 7-8% of my class. Is this good for UF? My GPA is only a 4.125, though..

If you are in the top 10%, you will probably get in, but you will notice that at FSU, UCF, and USF, there are many kids who were in the top 10% of their class, and presumably, most of them would have preferred UF, if given the opportunity.

I really hope top 10% and a 2040+ on the SAT gets me in…

I wouldn’t be so presumptuous, floridadad55.

I would FSUDAD.

Even back in 1976 when I graduated from HS. 18 from our class applied to UF 4 of us got in and the other 14 went to FSU.

My sons class 24 applied to UF 6 got in the rest went to FSU and UCF.

In both scenarios 35 years ago and this past year all the students applied to UF. I am sure there are some HS students that do not apply to UF. But for the most part all of the top students that want to stay in Florida want to attend UF.

I know because my wifes best friend is the college guidance counselor at a major HS in Miami she has the stats and so do her counterparts throughout the county and thats the way it is.

My sons graduating class in Ft. Lauderdale last year had fifteen accepted to UF. Seven matriculated there, six choose FSU, one choose UCF, and one went private.

Every UF eligible student is not as taken with the school as you are. And that’s just the way it is.

Idk how true this is, but according to a former teacher of mine, if you were in the Top 5% of your class, you can get into ANY public school in Florida

It is possible that this site could be gamed, but it does suggest that UF wins the FSU cross-admit battle by nearly 9-to-1:

[College Cross-Admit Comparison: University of Florida vs Florida State University | Parchment - College admissions predictions.](<a href=“Compare Colleges: Side-by-side college comparisons | Parchment - College admissions predictions.”>Compare Colleges: Side-by-side college comparisons | Parchment - College admissions predictions.)

Of course, there are legitimate reasons for picking FSU over UF…but that is usually not the case, so Floridadad55 was reasonable in his thesis.

^ “It is possible that this site could be gamed…”

Wow, that is an understatement–especially when you are gaming it yourself! I wouldn’t attach much legitimacy to a site (Parchment.com) that ranks FAMU higher than universities like: WUSTL; Wake Forest; Wisconsin; NYU; John Hopkins; Vanderbilt etc.

[2010 - 2011 Parchment College Rankings: National Universities | Parchment - College admissions predictions.](<a href=“Parchment Student Choice College Rankings 2023 | Parchment - College admissions predictions.”>Parchment Student Choice College Rankings 2023 | Parchment - College admissions predictions.)

^I suspect you simply don’t like the results and have decided to accuse me of “gaming” the system. Just exactly how did I “game” this, Tallaslassie? But simply providing a link to a survey??

Also, you attempt to discredit the results by pointing to the Elo-based overall ranking that you personally disagree with, but seemed to have missed the fact that the cross-admit comparison I pointed out is based upon a different statistical methodology….which, incidentally, shows FSU winning the cross-admit battle with UCF and USF.

Sorry if I sounded a little skeptical about Parchment’s research results and methodologies. Their site refers visitors to Wikipedia for explanations of their research methodologies. Parchment’s survey results may or may not be on the money; if I used Wikipedia as a reference source in my school papers–I’d get an F! Parchment appears to be a recently started unit of a company that does data exchange for colleges; I’m not sure how reliable Parchment’s info is.
