If my class rank is just barely out of the top 5% (29/475), and if I were to apply EA, would I have a chance to get accepted? Throw into the mix the fact that I'm Asian...

What are your other stats? Class rank is only a sliver of the entire pie (excuse the trite analogy).

Is your class rank weighted?

Sorry.

I guess what I really meant is whether my class rank would automatically discredit me from even being considered for admission. I'm not a legacy, and I do need financial aid. Counting all these factors, I was wondering if the admissions officers would just throw my app aside after just looking at my class rank...? I don't want to spend time working on the application if they are not even going to give mine a fair chance...

My class rank is weighted, which sucks, because I've taken the hardest classes possible at school, and I've taken some classes at the local state university. The problem is that the class I was taking at the university was pretty much impossible to get an A in.. which dropped my rank from somewhere in the top 10 to 29. It kind of blows. :/

Being in the top 5% shouldn't stop you [especially since most top colleges just want that nice number of being in the top 10% though granted you want to be ranked as high as possible] since one aspect of any application generally does not prevent you nor guarantee you a spot, just have a strong application overall and you should do well.

They look at more than your class rank. I don't think they ever throw out a good applicant without considering. Unless you've gotten a D or multiple C's throughout your application. You still have a good chance.

I'm surprised that your school factors university grades into your high school rank....

Thank you for your responses, everyone!

Yes, I was surprised the school included university grades as well. :/
