Class Rank

Depends on the school. If there is little grade inflation, and weighted advanced classes, then it would be bad. No weighting or massive grade inflation would make that less important.

no i'm in a well-known competetive public school. 11 people of 300 went to harvard in the graduating class of 2006.

You say you've heard people need to be valedictorian or salutatorian to get into top schools, but then you say 11 people from your school last year got into Harvard. Well, obviously that contradicts the first statement. At least 7 of those people were lower ranked than you are and got in, so you know perfectly well that your rank is excellent. This is quite annoying.

I want a Q6700 Quad core... Your rank is fine. Many vals and sals get into Ivy league because they are also the ones focusing on other key areas too...
