Class Rank

My school gives out a UW and W class rank

I am in the top 9% in W ranking but im only top 15% in the UW ranking.

Which one do colleges look at and what effect will this have on my application if i am applying to schools from 10-30 on the US World News rankings?

^ i was wondering the same question! better be on top10% on both GPAs!!

I’m sure colleges will care more about the weighted rank. They don’t care about students with 4.0’s but less difficult courses. And anyway, being in the top 15 UW is still a great achievement in and of itself.

To answer your question though, yes, the USNWR rankings do depend on UW GPA’s (yet another reason why those rankings are total bull shiit). I wouldn’t worry too much about it though. I’m sure most colleges wont be too hurt by having a 15% in its admitted class

Our school only ranks based on W gpa’s (how it should be) although I wish they would do away with it altogether as seems to be the trend. We have vast numbers of Validictorians!

thanks for the info guys
any further answers would be awesome :)

I think they’d look at both GPAs, but they’d also take your courseload into consideration. A person with say a 3.8 UW with many honors and AP classes would look better than a person with a 4.0 UW with none/very few honors and AP classes. Colleges like to see that you challenge yourself.
