Class Rank

Okay, so I've posted on this board before..and I've gotten responses (and read some others too) that say something to the extent of "Being Valedictorian will greatly increase your chances of admission.'

Here's the thing: I'm fairly certain, actually really certain, I'm number one in my class. But my school doesn't officially rank. (My counselor told me I was number one--they do like unofficial ranking or something.) So, on my secondary school report, I know my counselor will put top 10%. Is this bad? I mean, my GPA is high, but since it only says "Top 10%" as opposed to "1/100," will that affect my chances?

Thanks in advance.

If your school doesn’t rank it won’t count against you. Chances are if your school has had kids apply here before they can get a good idea of where you’d fit based on historical data too, so you should be golden :)

It is fine if your school doesn’t rank. Here is a quote directly from one of our admissions officers in response to a similar question:

“Many schools don’t weight or rank–we read your transcript for how you’re doing in each class and look at your grade trends in each subject area–so it’s not simply a GPA number we look at–it’s everything those numbers reveal that’s important to us.”
