Hey. I attend a VERY competitive public school. I have never gotten a B, and have gotten 14 A+s, and 4 As (band, 8th grade math, 9th grade history, and health.) I have taken AP classes, and have even gotten A+s in those. He's the joke... somehow, I am around the 10% marker, either 9% or 11%. Tell me how someone with my grades and my credentials may not be in the top 10% in a class of 500 and have taken all- AP/Honors level courses?????

is this weighted or unweighted?

well...around 50 people have better GPA's then you. Show potential on the SAT - if your school is competitive you'll be fine.

It depends on how many APs. I've taken 5, and I'm #2 behind a boy who took 6 (I actually took 6 too, but the system's all screwed up and AP German doesn't count for AP credit). There are people lying in wait to slaughter me because they took 4 and they want to make the speech.

Do the A+s count for more than regular As? They don't in my district. And you have eighth graders at your high school? That's funky. They might have started early on the honors. Plus, can't honors courses actually bring your GPA down? I don't remember how, but somebody posted something like that. The people ahead might have taken APs where you took honors, which ups their point value.

Or the computer might be wrong. One of my friends was freaking out over a 3.2 when it was supposed to be a 4.2. Dang modern technology.

I don't think the technology was to blame...

How about rampant grade inflation?

At least your school ranks.........I rank behind all the kids in shop and basic math who have 4.0's. I have a 3.94 with the hardest classload of anyone I know except maybe one girl.......and I'm ranked 20 something...

I don't know why they do it. Literally, there are a bunch of kids who say, "I'd take honors English, but then I'd hurt my GPA"

^That's horrible!!!!!!
:( :( :o

lol thanks, yeah, I know..

I hear you, soccerfanatic. It's the exact same way at my school. I have somewhere around a 3.7-3.8 in the most difficult classes, and I am the very last person ranked in the top 1/3 of my class. Even worse, there are no honors classes and only 2 APs, so colleges will have no way of knowing that the classes I am taking are any more difficult than those taken by my classmates. How is an adcom to know that I got the only A in "Historical Turning Points," but that "Meteorology" is a slough class that all the losers get As in?

Yeah, that sounds tough.......hopefully they pay a lot of attention to the counselor's part where they comment on the difficulty of the student's courseload.

I was ranked 7th in a class of 20 or so students (not even in the top 25%). My GPA was 3.5-3.6. I still got into Brown, Cal, Chicago, Columbia, Cornell, Duke, Georgetown, Michigan, Northwestern and Penn. So clearly, if your school is excellent, and if you ace your APs and SATs, your class rank is not going to hurt you.

I got a 710 on the Chemistry SAT II...um... pretty much it....

Oh, by the way, that would mean my unweighted GPA would be like 3.9? Plus, I found out today that health DOESN'T go on my transcript, so I actually have 14 A+s, and 3 A's

And I have been taking all honors and AP classes, (heck, I even got an A+ in AP Euro sophomore year)

same situation at my school man...it sux, cause i see kids on here with grades less then mine who are like number 5 in their class...its rediculous
