So I am an incoming senior in High School and I am not asking for a major chance thing. I am simply wondering how likely it is for someone to get in who is not in the top 10% of their class? In my school I will be in the top 11% but due to some people taking easy classes and doing perfectly in everything I will be unable to get into the top 10%. So how likely would it be to get in if you just barely miss getting into the top 10%?

No one who hits the “submit” button has a good chance. That being said, Yale looks for the top scholars and others who can contribute to the Yale community. Class rank is only one segment of that. If you have other factors that grab your file readers’ attention, then that’s good. Otherwise, you’ll be among the 93%.

Are you one of the handful of top scholars in your HS? Known by the teachers and the principal? Then you’re viable. If you’re not, then I’d say you’re not viable.

By the way: this applies for all the colleges whose fora you placed this exact message.

Best of luck to you though.

Well, my school has 5 Principles so knowing them all is not possible. I know one of them though. And we have several hundred teachers so not all of the teachers know of me. However the teachers who do know me literally adore me. I have never once been disliked by a teacher. All the teachers that I have had would write me great recommendations, my problem is more of, which do I like the most. But if I don’t get in then oh well, I know very well that it is a massive long shot. Thanks for the help!
