class ranking

In short, yes.
Those classes should count for more and that "more" should be equal for all students taking those classes. The school board has a lot of things to work on. The extra points awarded for taking AP and Honors classes are different everywhere. This thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=42481 lists just some of the diffs in the points they get.

u know what I heard?.....many colleges are not accepting AP credits just to get money from u, (making u retake the course) =[

that's just stupid!

Hmm. I thought all schools did what ours did. We have both weighed and unweighed scales, and we can choose which to send.

Superior Child24, yea it does sounds stupid, but that's what one of the AP teachers said. He said "It really don't matter what you get on the exam or if you're taking it or not, because many colleges are not taking AP credit anymore".......~_~....I hope it's not true. or it's a friggin waste of my money!

When your school is determing val, sal, and other class ranks, what terms of high school do they use? The first six? The first seven? OR All eight?

my school uses weighted GPA to determine class rank. however, there are still a lot of problems with the system. It encourages people to take as many free or off periods as they can instead of unweighted electives, because if you take, for instance, five weighted classes and three off periods, your GPA will be higher than someone who took five weighted classes and three additional unweighted classes. It's crazy, because the 2nd person is obviously doing more work.

And we determine val and sal by cumulative freshman, sophomore, junior year grades.

Ohh yeah that doesn't seem fair.

Anybody else? How many terms of high school determine class rank?

7, first three years and 1st semester of senior year.

anyyone else?

mine does first 3 years and first sem senior year

Same at my school, they take the first three years and 1/2 senior year.

Do colleges understand that a person might have an off year?

hopefully....

My school weight APs, Honors, Electives, and people with bands or playing other instruments or musics......it really seems unfair because those Music classes people take since they're in junior high, it averages up and it's an easy 4.0 for them.. For instance.....rather a person will get a lower average on core curriculum than one who take the same classes as the other person BUT they have band. I think it's really unfair..

my school does val, sal, etc from all 8 semesters. last year, the guy who was #1 after first semester senior year ended up being 3rd in the class at graduation.
