Class ranks for colleges

When looking at class ranks, which is considered by colleges: rank at the end of junior year or at the end of first semester senior year?

I'm currently ranked 3/461 based on freshman-junior year grades, and I've been taking Honors/AP classes throughout my high school career and have been getting 100+'s in many of them. However, right now, while I'm doing well in my other 3 classes, I am struggling a bit in AP Lit. and Comp.; if I get a B this semester, there's a really good chance I'll be out of the top 5 (probably 6th or so). I know for ED and EA, they can only look at junior year grades and before to make their decisions, but what about RD? If a school has a RD deadline of late Dec. 2010 or early Jan. 2011, if my teachers, my counselor, and I submit all my recs/apps before the end of this semester, would they only see my rank as of now, or would they still be able to somehow see my new rank if it were to change 1st sem. senior year? If they are able to see my new rank, would they only consider my new rank, is it possible that their decision will already have been made by then, or would they still look at my fresh-junior grades more?

I'm applying to Yale (SCEA), Princeton, Columbia, U Penn, Duke, Emory (Emory Scholars Program, so earlier deadline though still applying RD), Vanderbilt, Georgetown, WashU, U Chicago, and UTK. Also, no matter what, I'll still try my best to get an A avg. in AP Lit and Comp., because it would make me feel just horrible to give up. I just want to know for sure which is considered (or which is considered MORE).

Take a very deep breath, and move on.

One B in your senior year is not going to be the make or break of your college application. Stressing out can’t possibly change your situation. And yes colleges (in RD) will see your B (or A).

Actually, whether you are admitted RD or ED colleges will eventually see all of your grades. If you were in a downward spiral you would run the risk of admission being rescinded - but one B in a tough class? Focus your attention on the task at hand - mastering subject content/concepts and don’t stress over things you can’t control, such as the whims of the admissions committee.

I know they would see my senior year grades via Midyear reports and such, but how much would it matter in terms of admissions? By the time they got Midyear reports, would they be looking at my senior grades for admissions purposes or just to make sure there’s no significant drop in my grades? Also, would it be considered a significant drop if my freshman, sophomore, and junior year Honors I/II and AP Lang. English grades were 97, 101, and 100, respectively, and I were to get a B in AP Lit?
