It looks like the orientation dates are June 14 to July 2. It says that class registration is done during orientation.
My question is how does it work for the pending Senior AP credits which will be released only in 1st-2nd week of July? In fact, CPP’s deadline for AP score submission is July 15. How can we confirm the classes to register during orientation if we’re still waiting for the AP score, example for Calculus BC.
Sorry I graduated college from another country, so all this college stuff for my S21 is new to me.
Tagging @Gumbymom hoping you can help, thanks in advance!
You can determine which AP courses will be given credit by checking this link: https://www.cpp.edu/sci/biological-sciences/students/AP.shtml
You can compare the classes that will get AP credit with the Major flowchart to determine which courses he will need to sign up for 1st semester Fall. They will also have an advisor to help him through the registration process and give course selection options but it is helpful to go into orientation with an idea of a class schedule.
Thanks for all the info. Yes he definitely needs to clarify with advisors on how it works out. Example, he already passed CalcAB AP so he has credit for CPP Calculus I.
CalcBC AP will give him credit for Calculus II, but we wouldn’t know his AP score until midJuly. If he doesn’t pass CalcBC AP, then he needs to register Calculus II in first semester (while Calculus is still fresh for him!). But if he passes CalcBC, then he has room for another class. So he needs to get this clarified with advisors on how this works. Same situation for other AP subjects.
Hopefully the advisors have good suggestion on this.
Thanks for the link you provided for AP credits. It says CalcAB gets credit only for MAT 1200 (Calculus for Life Sciences).
This link for AP credit 2019-2020 says CalcAB gets credit for MAT 1140 (Calculus I) or 1200 or 1250
He’ll also ask the advisors which is which. I guess he needs to setup advising appointment soon.
Sometimes depending upon major, they will give AP credit for a Class but may suggest the student take the class to prepare for more advanced Math courses. My son at SDSU got credit for AP Calc AB and BC and did not find he had issues with the other Math courses he needed for his CS major such as Discrete Math or Linear Algebra.
Thanks again, appreciate all the input. Yes, it looks like the specific subject credit for CalcAB AP depends on which major.
Just found this link for latest 2020-21 AP credits:
We’ll watch out when they publish the new one for 2021-22.
We also knew that CPP doesn’t seem to give major subject credit for CompSciA AP which he passed. So what my S21 did is he’s taking the Intro to Java in community college now - CPP will give him credit for this, according to Assist.org
Good move on your part by him taking the CC transferable class. My son’s schools did not offer any CS classes AP or otherwise, so he just took the Intro CS class at SDSU which was an easy A. My younger son was more concerned about getting AP credit for the GE courses since he was not an English/Humanities guy.
