Class Registration

I understand that we have to wait to register for classes...but some of the classes we are supposed to be taking are filling up pretty quickly. Will we be stuck with bad timings then or am I missing something?

thx.

i was at the summer session for Washington, DC, and other people voiced the same feeling you had, but the counselor said that we would be able to register no earlier than the friday of review week.

you'll still do alright. most classes won't be filled up completely.

if you're persistent enough you can pretty much get into any class you want, as some people will drop out of classes in the first week.

Yeah, I noticed many first year classes were filling up last month. I emailed someone at the First Year department about it. His reply was that they weren't filling up, and he included a url that showed they weren't filling up. At that time, the link he sent me (http://www.college.columbia.edu/unify/bulletinSearch.php?school=EN&courseIdentifierVar=PHYSC2801&header=www.engineering.columbia.edu/include/popupheader.php&footer=www.engineering.columbia.edu/include/popupfooter.php) had different enrollment information than the generalized university directory of courses page (http://www.columbia.edu/cu/bulletin/uwb/subj/PHYS/C2801-20053-001).

That class (Accelerated Physics I) is just an example. When I recieved his reply email, I compared the page he sent me, from the College's directory, to the page I had originally used, from the University's directory, and they were different at the same time. There may just be some problems with the system.

Also keep in mind that some courses SEAS requires in the first year are required or optional for College students in later years. This could explain enrollment of seemingly first year courses before incoming freshmen could register.

thx for the replies. i am still not completely reassured, lol.

I looked up GenChem and there are two sections. In each section only 4 more students can enroll! It makes no sense...maybe like inneedofhelp said, their system is messed up...but still they should fix it.
