Class Retake?

Ok, I just took my Math 32A Final with Chayes and I'm pretty sure I bombed it. If I don't pass, what is the process of retaking it another quarter, meaning how would it work? Say I get an B next time I take it, will it replace what grade I got now or average it? And is there a limit on the number of retakes of classes in general? Thanks

I forgot how many units you can retake in general, but the new grade you get will replace your old grade in calculating your GPA. Both grades will show up on your transcripts though.

hey... im pretty sure all of us bombed it.. lol i think i did too... so just hope for a nice curve??

You just log on to URSA and enroll in the same class again, as though it was the first time you took it. The next grade replaces your current grade. The limit on retakes is two, I think.

you need a C- or worse to retake a class.
all the details are in the course catalog, which is on the registrar's site.

So both grades show up on the transcript, or just the grade for which you re-took the class?
Is it better to get an "incomplete" or a re-take?

If you retake the class, and the better grade gets on your GPA, will the F or D the first time around count towards the 3.50 minimum for the automatic admission into the master's program in engineering??

Ok this is probably a retarded question, but in regards (sort of) to the questions above, is it better to get a D in a class, retake it and get an A, or just pass the class with a C? I mean this in terms of how medical schools/pharmacy schools/optometry schools would look at it.

I don't think a D will ever trump a C, even if you got an A the second time around, because they'll know its your second time around, and you're not really guaranteed that A either

I was hypothetically speaking about that A. but yea you made a good point about it being your second try.

The official policy is:
-You can retake any course in which you got a C- or lower (though keep in mind, anything at or above D- IS passing.. but some courses either recommend or require at least a C- in it's prereqs..)
-For better or for worse, the 2nd grade is the one that counts (both will still appear on your transcript, but there will be a note after the first one saying it has been retaken, and it would not count in your GPA calculations)
-You may retake up to 16 units of work before all of your grades count towards your GPA (that is.. once you used up your 16 units, and you repeat another class, the previous grade and your new grade will both count in your GPA calculations)
-You may only retake the same class once. Afterwards, all of the grades will count. (for example.. you first get a C-, then you get a F, and then you get an A. Your GPA from this course would be 2.0 from the F and the A)
-If you advance in the course's tree, you can not go back and retake a previous class. (for example.. math 31A you get a D, math 31B you have a life changing experience and get an A. Now you want to go back and fix that grade in Math 31A. Too bad... it would say unauthorized repeat and you would get no credit at all for it)

Point #2: Always try to pass the class on the first try. Grad schools DO NOT like to see you giving up for any reason.. even if just to try again next year. There's few second chances in real life.

FYI.. this is my first post here.. i decided to finally bite because i've been reading some posts. Next time you have question, you kids should really consider talking to someone who's been trained in these kinds of stuff. If not your real academic counselor, then contact a peer counselor or even your old orientation counselor (if you went to orientation). These people know the rules inside out, and it's way more reliable then trusting random faces of the internet.

ok i took my macroenomics for the second time… the first time I withdraw the class and the second time i got a F… this is the only class i had boomed… so my question is, if i can retake the class one more time or that was my last chance.
