I got a C+ on a pretty basic-level integral calculus course at a relatively competitive top university. I screwed up the final majorly and had a pretty decent grade in the class before. I'm also quite good at math, and honestly this bad grade is due to over-confidence and panic. I know if I take the class again (which is allowed at my school), I'll ace it with flying colors. Should I? Will this affect future med school admission?

I would not recommend retaking a C+ (a passing grade).

If you retake and get an A, anybody reading your application will think, “of course he did well, he took it twice.”

If you retake and get any less than an A, they will think “he took it twice and still couldn’t manage an A?”

Either way, the outcome’s not in your favor. You’d be better off taking another, perhaps higher level, math class and doing well in it.

Thanks so much!

Like GS said, don’t retake it - your current grade is passing and acceptable to med schools for pre-req courses (C or above). You should only retake a course if it doesn’t meet these criteria.
