Hi, I’m an incoming junior
My class schedule for junior year is
AP Physics 1
APUSH
Pre-Calculus Honors
English 3 Honors
Spanish 3
Sophomore year:
English 2 Honors
Spanish 2
Ap Euro
Chemistry Honors
Algebra 2
Senior year, I plan on taking :
Ap English 4
Ap calculus AB
Ap Statistics
Ap Government
Will self studying AP Tests junior year improve my chances of admissions? Since my class rigor is kind of low… I’m planning on also taking the Ap Bio test, Ap Macroeconomics, Ap Physics 2
I’m looking at UCLA, UCB, JHU, CMU (I got 1 B sophomore year (3.91, 3.43 freshman, and I am trying to get a 4.0 junior UW)
The 3 GPAs above are all UW
From what I’ve seen, self studying AP tests doesn’t help for admissions. I think it shows some initiative, but colleges value the year long commitment of a classroom course over a three hour exam so they will not be impressed if you self study APs. Self study if you are interested in the subject, don’t do it for the purpose of impressing colleges.
Your course rigor is based on the context of your school. You will not be punished for a lack of AP/Honors classes if your school doesn’t offer them.
Self studying does not increase your course rigor, so no, it will not help with admissions.
Just try your best, challenge yourself as much as possible, and take a deep breath.

My school offers more AP’s… I am not able to take an AP Math since I was in algebra 2 sophomore year and I was scared of getting a B in Ap English
Will the rigor of my senior year help?
