hey does anyone know what classes to take freshman year for an engineering undeclared major.

well it depends on what you placed out of with aps, but here's the general one:

math 1a(unless you're starting higher at 1b or 53)
chem 1a(unless you placed out)
humanities
engineering 92
another attractor
i forget if there's something else but basically that would be around 14 units

thanks -

i think engineering-undeclared freshman are also supposed to take a computer science course

true - i didn't take mine until spring semester (engineering 77). with the cs classes you have to decide if you might go to eecs or some other engineering. because if you're probably going to do eecs then you should just start off with cs61a (unless you haven't done programming before so instead you should take cs3). otherwise e77 fulfills this requirement. i'm not 100% sure which engineering majors requires this one so you should check up on that if you have an idea on which engineering you're going to be going into.

Engineering 77 is also required for BioE and IEOR

i can't seem to find any listed "attractor courses" on schedule.berkeley.edu

can someone direct me to one?

coe.berkeley.edu

current students -> engineering handbook under engineering undeclared

sorry for my not being clear; i know what the attractor courses are, but i can't find any listed on schedule.berkeley.edu for fall 2006. examples listed in the gray engineering handbook include ne39, eecs1, ieor39, ce92, me1, mse24, and others.

here are a few more questions i have for you engineering ppl: 1) are attractor courses mandatory for EU? 2) is computer science considered a science or engineering course? one minimum req is my schedule "must include at least two letter graded math, science or engineering courses". will this prospective schedule for next year "fly"?: math 1b, comp sci 61a, engin 92, a humanities course, and an attractor course (if necessary).

Thanks for your help

123456789!

yes, a cs course will satisfy this so your schedule is fine. and attractor courses are just meant to help you, they're not required for anything.

are we required to take engineering 92? or is it just an attractor that can be replaced with another one?

is general chem required for engineering students? (specifically IEOR)

CIVIL AND ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING 92 P 001 LEC
Introduction to Civil and Environmental Engineering

does anyone know if this is an attractor course?

Not necessarily (you should check yourself), but definitely Phys 7A-B for all engineering majors (which I think is bull because the 7A stuff isn't used in EE classes, and I've confirmed this with upper-division students.)

If you have AP Physics C credit (4-5), skip out of 7A. It's not worth your time.

If you're not sure whether chem's needed, start with physics. In fact, the thermodynamics from physics 7B will help you in chem 1A (or vice versa.)

i got 5s on both physics C APs, so i can place out of physics 7a

would it be too hard to take physics 7b first semester? or should i wait till after having taken math 53/54 and try for physics h7b?

where do i find out if i need to take chem 1a?

ok guys. i think i finally came up with a schedule for myself. can you guys tell me if it sounds ok or if im missing anything?

math 1a 4 units
chem1a 4 units
slavic languages and literatures r5a 4 units
engineering 92 1 unit
civil and environmental engineering 92 1 unit

overall 14 units, but i dont know. i feel as though i dont have enough real classes (like not seminars or attractors). PLEASE give me your opinions!!!

That is a good schedule to ease into college academics.
