Class schedule in regards to transferring to Berkeley.

Well it turns out that there's like a ninety-nine percent chance that I wont get my English 1A class for the Fall semester. I will only have History 1A, History 1B, Statistics 50, and Anthropology 1 for the Fall semester. If I however end up taking Math 5A (Calculus I) and English 1A (freshman English) over the Winter and I end up getting all A's during the Fall and during the Winter, will that make up for my weak Fall schedule on my transcript?

Thanks.

I think English 1 is really important to have completed by Fall.

Why don't you take an English class at another college? Or even online? There's plenty if you look around.. and usually they have different starting dates so no worries if the earlier ones are full.

As for the Calculus, I'm not sure, it depends on your major.

Well this is my first year so I'm not applying until next Fall semester. Is it bad to take classes during the Winter?

The Gospel According to CardinalFocused: Yes, you have little to no chances at UCLA and UCB now; the admissions committees have a general distaste for the winter season (something about hating Santa Claus and Eskimos)

wth? im sorry but it doesnt take a genius to know that it doesnt matter what time you take english 1A and 1c as long as it is completed.

Oh I just sort of worried because someone posted a thread about how their teacher told them that if they did not get an A in their freshman english class that Berkeley would not even look at their application which made me wonder a lot about not being able to take it during the Fall.

Oh what can i say? Bollocks

I don't get how getting an A in ENG1A has anything to do with compensating for your "weak Fall schedule". You're Fall schedule at 13 credits doesn't seem to be that weak...and ENG1A can be completed anytime (preferrably before you turn in your app).

But anyhow, seeing as you're going to PCC and you're applying Fall '07, unless you're SURE you can get an A in all of those classes; you should probably stretch out your courseload. Maybe take Calc in Spring '07?

Calc during winter session is VERY hard. Unless you have a strong background in math I would not suggest it.

I totally agree!! ^

What is Eng1A equivalent to? Is it the lowest level transferrable English class @ PCC?

Yeah it's freshman English. I talked to Dr. Oventile and he told me that should I take English 1A in the winter to read the books in advance. English 1A should not be hard during the winter. Seriously it's sort of like an ESL class.

Oh and I've already taken Calculus and I know the concepts so I guess I should just do Chapters 1-6 on my own (all of the problems) and then take the course during the winter.

I'm sorry I just got so worried and I've figured that when it comes to college admissions that it's always worth the embarrasment to ask any questions.

Haha. It's ok. It wasn't a stupid question at all. The only thing was I had trouble following the logic of what you were trying to ask.

Remember to use ratemyprofessor though, there are some really crummy teachers at PCC...

Oventile is awesome!

If you're able to make posts on here, then you will get an A in Engl 1A no matter which teacher you have. I currently have Oventile and it seems to me that he's just fine. If you've already taken Calc in HS then Math 5A will be a breeze...I only took the very first semester in HS and still flew through 5A, no sweat. You should'nt do any preparation for these classes unless you really feel that this is necessary.

(Haha, I'm getting the hell out of PCC this year..yay)
