I'm a Transfer student so I won't actually be able to register until the 27th, but here's my planned schedule:

PHYS 1A with SUTTERLY/BURGASSER (still deciding)
MATH 20B with ????
PSYCH 104 with LEAVITT
CHEM 140A with TERNANSKY (currently full, 1 waitlisted)

I've a couple of questions....

Has anyone taken physics with either Sutterly or Burgasser? Sutterly has good reviews, but Burgasser only has one (though good). Any opinions?

Math 20B courses have like...no instructor listed, except for one course, which has Bowers. When do we find out who our instructor is? Any recommendations? :c

I've already had the time to read about the O. chem instructors at UCSD, and they are all relatively good...but they also have few openings, most of which are full. How often does a wait listed student actually get in?

This'll be my very first quarter ever...and it totals 17 units. I'm no new comer to working hard and fast (17 semester units +30 hr work week last year), but is this too much of a work load? Psych classes I don't imagine to be hard, and I've taken Math 10 series equivalents already so I feel I should ease into the 20 series better....

Anything will help me get a better idea of what I should change or what to expect....thanks! c:

I don’t think it’s too much of a workload. But that’s really for you to find out. After a week or two you’ll see if it’s too much for you and you can drop a class.

I took PSYC 104 with Leavitt and it was incredibly easy. PHYS 1A isn’t very hard either.

That sounds like a reasonable course load. Phys1A and Math20B were fairly low stress classes, especially if you feel confident in your math abilities which it sounds like you are.

I had the same issue of no professor being listed for the Math 20 series, but all of the professors I’ve ended up with were decent. Unless Bowers has really positive or negative reviews (I use ratemyprofessor.com for that stuff), I’d say just go with what fits your schedule timing-wise the best. If you go with unlisted, you will probably find out the day of the first class, unless your professor decides to email the class beforehand.

You have a VERY good chance of getting into ochem if you’re #1 on the waitlist. It’s a rough class, so it’s likely that someone will drop. If you can, go to Ternansky’s office hours or just get your face known/recognized so in case he has to make an exception and let you in, he’ll know who you are. (Btw, Dr. Bob, as he likes to be called, is one of the toughest professors out there, but it’s very worthwhile to take his classes and he is clearly an expert in his field. Don’t worry, his curve is very generous.)

Ahhh, I see…just in time to register for my classes! Thanks a bunch to you two, you guys are awesome! I feel a lot more confident/comfortable now haha! c’:

But I’m currently the second person on wait list for Ternansky and still hoping my chances to get in will be high! Would anyone suggest e-mailing him or showing up to his class to better my chances? :o

depends on your position on the waitlist but anything #1-4 should be good, so i believe you’ll get in. just keep checking all the sections throughout weeks 1-4 (especially the friday of week 4 as many people will finally drop right as the window to do so closes) and quickly switch into whichever section is open.
