class schedule

I plan to attend uci this fall as an out of state student. The price to go there is outrageous and i am thinking of taking 7 or 8 classes at once. Would this save me money and would this be a good idea? Would I ever have time to relax and maintain good grades?

That's really hard to say. It really depends on your academic ability. If you took six AP's and three community college courses in HS each year, then you're probably in good shape. I think they put a cap on the number of courses you can take. You get the dean (or someone else) to sign some papers to allow you to take more.

I don't think it's a good idea to take seven or eight classes to save money. But I don't know... maybe you're some super genius.

It's not so much a cap on the number of courses you can take as it is a cap on the number of units.

It's my understanding that all of the UCs (with the exception of Berkeley, with it's 20-unit semester cap) operate on the rule that you must take at least 12 units per quarter to be enrolled as a full time student, with a maximum of 19 units for any given quarter.

If you want to take more, it's difficult and you need to petition the faculty.

As far as I understand it, the maximum enrollment units for undergraduates is 20 units per quarter, while the max for graduate students is 16 units per quarter.

it is possible to take more than 20 at UCI though?

Yes, but you have to get permission from your Dean. They won't give a first quarter freshman permission, so don't bother asking for an exception until winter.

That's 16 hours spent in the classroom, spread across five days. This is twice the amount of time than an average UCI student spends in a classroom and highly unrecommended. Don't quote me on this, but I believe that you can apply for California residency after you first year at UCI.
