Hi. From the posts I've read, it seems like a lot of you are worried about class conflicts and scheduling. From my experience last year, I've had almost no trouble getting the classes I wanted. The discussion/lecture stuff will be solved by your instructors once you start class. You guys shouldn't stress over it. It'll work out at the end. Have faith in the system!

With exception to writing classes (and other small classes), I'd say you'll get into a class as long as you're on the waitlist. A lot of people drop once the quarter starts to move classes around. A bunch more will drop once they find out they're too behind. Profs will most likely sign you in as long as you're on the waitlist.

so should we enroll ourselves in other classes while being on the waitlist for some classes? and what do we do about the september 15th enrollment deadline?

I have a question. I signed up for Span 1A fundamentals for 9:00am because I saw that 10am was being waitlisted. So I read this thread and decided to sign up for the 10am waitlist and drop the 9am. Apparently, my waitlist # is 001, so I'm going to assume I'm the first in line. Then, in the case that I don't get the 10am class, I signed up again for the 9:00am class. Am I approaching this situation correctly? Should I drop the 9:00am class right now or keep it?

Superdonu, to play it safe, you should stay in the not drop one class until you enroll in another. In British's example, you should enroll in the first class while being waitlisted on the same class if the teacher is the same. I don't know how big the spanish class is, but I'm fairly certain that 1st on the waitlist will get you into the class. If the subjects are entirely different, say bio and physics, then I'd recommend dropping bio because you'd prob end up in physics and wouldn't want to waste time in bio. What about the sept 15th deadline? I don't really get the question.

Heylookitsme, a couple in my writing class last year were trying to get in from the waitlist and failed. You can try, but no guarantees. Best to talk to the instructor. If not, it's okay to take it next quarter.

Britishsayshuhup, I hope I've answered your question.

At UC Davis, where I teach, some lectures have multiple discussion sections. For instance, I might have 120 students in lecture, divided into four discussion sections of 30 each. So, I often have 4 people telling me they are #1 on the waitlist (one from each section). Not sure if this same situation occurs at UCI.

At UCD it is generally not a good idea to give up a sure thing (a class you have successfully enrolled in) for a chance at another class you like more. I have had students drop one course to add another, and end up with nothing. Maybe UCI is different, but I would be careful.

Also, the more popular the class/prof is, the less likely that anyone will drop.

so i kinda wanna take a dance class at uci but i dont know if i should take it for units under the dance dept or for no units under campus recreation. also, if i were to sign up for units i'll be waitlisted so i dont know the chances of me getting in but for campus recreation it has less people and at a more inconvenient time. what should i do? help would be awesome!
