<p>Does anyone know when incoming freshmen will be able to choose their classes/tutorials? I thought they were sending something out in mid-May but my d hasn't gotten anything.</p>
<p>Last year, new students were told to complete an online Course Preference Form by late June. It will be available on, “The Hub” (<a href=“https://thehub.hampshire.edu%5B/url%5D”>https://thehub.hampshire.edu</a>) - after a student logs in (presuming that they have the login details), they need to go to the ‘Student’ section, where there should be something like, “New Student To-do List”, which includes the course preference form. Your kid could go there now, where there are probably due dates for everything that needs to get in. The Preference Form is somewhat complicated, as it asks students to fill out a series of preferences in order of desirability. This was mostly to get students distributed into the right tutorial courses and other introductory Division I courses.</p>
<p>Perhaps you know this, but anyone can get into The Hub just to look at courses. Go to the above-listed address and then pick the ‘Search for Courses’ section. The search function is a little odd, but there are drop-down menus for the course levels, and one item is “FY Tutorial”. So, if you just pick the term (Fall 2011) and Course Level >> FY Tutorial, you will get a list of all the tutorials. Likewise, you can do the same thing for all 100-level courses.</p>
<p>The online Course Preference Form is due by July 1, but I think the sooner you get it in, the better your chances to get your most preferred courses.</p>

<p>“Course preferences can be filled out in June. All first-year students will be able to fill out course preference forms for courses via TheHub. This is NOT the same as registering for courses. After course preference submission closes (see TheHub for specific dates), students’ course schedules will be determined based on their course preferences. There is no preference given to students filling out the form early, as long as it is completed before the indicated deadline on TheHub.”</p>
<p>So, I was wrong about getting higher preference if the form is sent in prior to the deadline. I hope our daughter doesn’t read this, because I recall pestering her to get the preference form in ASAP.</p>

<p>My recollection is that students received their first semester schedule only about ten days before orientation started. I’d suggest having your daughter ask this question in Hampshire’s New Student Discussion Board:
