I know some version of calculus is required for Ross but I'm not sure which one to take. I took Calc 1 this past year and did very well, and probably got a 5 on the AP exam. I also heard that Calc 2 at Umich is difficult, and I want to keep my GPA up for applying to Ross. Would it matter if I took Calc 1 or 2? Any does anyone have suggestions for good extracurricular activities to get involved with?

Thanks!

I’m not in Ross (yet) but I’ve done way too much research about it, this is what you should be looking to take first/second semester.

If I were you I’d take Calc 1 again. You never use calculus in the business world, so going any further then Calc 1 is a waste of time, although for whatever reason it is imperative to do very well in whatever Calculus class you take, so retaking Calc 1 would probably make your life a little bit easier (just my opinion).

From what I’ve read online, any extracurricular that involves a serious time commitment and focuses on a skill you can apply to the business world (could be anything) is a good extracurricular. You have to write an essay about your clubs/activities at UM so it’d be good to make sure you have something to write about.

I also saw online that you shouldn’t take Calc 1 and Econ 101 in the same semester just because of the amount of work involved in each (could a current Ross student confirm this?). As for other classes you’re suppose to sprinkle some extra quantitative courses into the mix (I’m going to do Econ 102 for example) because that strengthens your application. It also says that 300 level social science/humanities classes look good (if that is your current declared major). Just browse around online and find the Ross admit/deny page on CC and read through everything and they’ll tell you what to do/not do.

If you get a 4 or 5 on the AP exam, you don’t need to take calc 1 or calc 2, so I’d recommend not taking either. Yes, a lot of advisers say not to take calc-1 and econ at the same time, but it’s really not too difficult to do so, as long as the rest of your schedule is reasonable. But I guess you might as well take 1 each semester to make it easier, no reason not to really.

Also, calc 2 might be harder than calc 1, but both are very difficult to get an A in, unless you’re really good at math

Taking Econ 101 and Calc at the same time isn’t advisable but it’s doable. I aced both last semester and just got accepted to Ross.

When you say “crazy schedule”, you mean something like 30 courses hours per week? more ? less ?
thx !
