How does it work at Cornell? Do we wake up early in the morning and select classes on our computer like a lottery draft? Or do we academic advisors to help us select classes? How do they work out conflicts in scheduling?

I've been curious about this too.

I wouldn't liken it to a "lottery" per se since I've been able to get ALL of the classes I wanted in my 3 years at Cornell. But yes, you get up early and select your classes on your computer through Just the Facts which will be relatively slow since everyone else is selecting classes at the same time. It's taken me anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour to select all of my classes.

How do they work out conflicts in scheduling? Um, don't pick classes that take place simultaneously and you're good.

When you get to cornell, you'll be assigned a time to pick your classes. At the time, you go to the department buildings and sign up for your classes and submit them to your college registrar. Although Cornell does have a lot of course offerings, you may not get your dream schedule that you want, but most likely you'll get into every class that you wanted. After the first semester, you sign up for your classes online, but you'll most likely have to meet with your advisor, if you have one, to get your PIN so that you can submit your course requests.

Ah yes, fudgemaster is right. First time, you'll have to walk around campus to the different department buildings. I think PIN's are also only for bio majors. I don't believe you need to get your advisor's approval if you're any other kind of major.

When do u walk around to pick classes?
