I am currently a second semester freshman enrolled in undergraduate engineering. I’m currently trying to decide between Mechanical and Chemical Engineering and am leaning towards MechE because Chemical Engineering seems to be pretty boring. It seems to be mostly just about chemical synthesis.
I am currently enrolled in Organic Chemistry II but I am considering switching into something like Intro to C/C++ because I’ve noticed that a lot of engineering internships use programming, especially CAD and C/C++.
I enjoyed the first semester of organic chemistry quite a bit and I am better at chemistry than physics but I’m more interested in projects that have to do with things mechanical engineers would be involved with; especially aerospace. I decided against Aerospace Engineering as a major because Mechanical Engineering seems more versatile in the marketplace.
Does anybody have any advice for which way to go? How helpful is Organic Chemistry II in deciding on a major? If I decided to drop it and then came back after a semester or two how hard would it be to pick back up?
Feel free to market either ChemE or MechE as I am by no means decided.
