<p>hey all - admitted student who has enrolled already.</p>
<p>since i finally tackled learnlink/opus/housing and finally have everything down, now i'm turning to class selection.</p>
<p>i know we can look at the course catalog, but what's the deal with selecting classes? do we have to wait til orientation (8.27.05) to sign up?</p>

<p>you sign up during orientation, whenyou can meet with your FAME leader who will help you decide what to take and walk you through OPUS and bidding and all that</p>
<p>thanks -- but are you SURE we have to wait until august? i mean, freshman orientation is only 4 days before the start of classes. i can't fathom how the emory administration will determine the schedule for an entire semester of 1100+ freshmen.</p>
<p>you can start looking now. but i didnt sign up until like 5mins before signing up closed. the administration doesnt make your schedule. the computer does (you sign up for classes via OPUS, no paperwork or anythying like that). signing up takes about 20 seconds. most freshmen i knew didnt get like any of the classes they wanted. i got all of mine. then you have to add/drop/swap. never had to do that so cant say much about it except from what i hear it's plenty easy. </p>
<p>if you know how to work the bidding (which you will learn in fame and it def doesnt take 4 days to master) you can get whatever classes you want.</p>
<p>OPUS really isn't that bad, but it is notorious for screwing freshmen over (unless you're a scholar of course.) Basically you pick your classes, and then split 36 bid points between them. The more bid points you put on a class, the more likely you are to get it. E.g. You and another kid are going for a spot in a highly sought GER like History 231. You put 10 bid points, they put 9...you get the class etc etc. But anyway, you have plenty of time to pick your classes...and then the computer spits back your answers in a couple of days. Its not that hard and it seems to work pretty well.</p>
<p>omg history 231 was the worst experience of my life.</p>
