Has anyone else watched their class size decrease by a huge amount over the course of High School? My class has gone from 184 freshman year to 106 (and falling) this year. Most of the decline is from dropouts and students being held back in large amounts. This isn't an inner city school or anything... just a typical mediocre rural public school. Is this unusual, or are there many far worse horror stories out there?

Actually, it’s been more of the opposite for me haha(state budget cuts) Consider yourself lucky:)(unless you like large classes, in which case, I’m sorry:()

I’m in eighth grade, so my class size will be basically cut in half next year. ): An unbelievable amount of kids enroll in the nearby Catholic schools. We have about four within a ten mile radius.

I stumbled upon CC when I was really interested in attending a boarding school. I checked the Prep School boards every week or so. But when it became clear that I wasn’t going to be able to even apply to the schools, I noticed HSL and enjoyed reading some of the threads. I’m not even thinking about college right now. I’m just focusing on surviving Earth Science! (:

And just so I’m not accused of straying too far from the thread’s purpose, just thought I’d say there’s a rumor that my class will be the smallest my high school has seen in more than a decade. Not sure if I like that.

Like 20 people left my school between junior and senior year.

The classes always come in huge in 7th grade, like 400 people, and it’s a mix of gaining and losing until 10th grade where we begin to pretty much just lose people. No one drops out. In the early years, people are “encouraged to leave” (basically they flunk out under a different name since my school is public) with frequency since they can’t get the grades and most people who flunk out of my school are straight A students at other publics around here. In the later years, people leave because they realize that if they stay, their GPA and rank will be in the toilet.
