Ok, we all know the intro classes are big, but someone on another forum just said that some go up to a THOUSAND students. Is this really true? if so, does anyone know which ones are the worst re class size? Thanks

Should be BIOL 180 with about 600 in a lecture. Someone correct me if another class now trumps this.

I heard UW’s intro BIO class got up to 700-800 one year.

Wow. Those are big. What about calc and the prerequisites for comp sci or engineering?

The biggest classes you can take are in Kane Hall, top capacity is about 700. The first class in Chem/Bio series usually are at full capacity, but rapidly go down as people either fail out or drop their hopes and dreams of being a doctor.

Usually there are 1 or 2 popular courses in every program that are open to all students (ie sociology of sex, psych or criminals, etc.) that will have 500+ students, too.

The class sizes are slightly different every quarter, but here are some numbers pulled off the registration pages.

Autumn 2012:
-Math 124: Lecture ~120 students, Quiz Sections ~30 students
-CSE 142: Lecture ~350 students, Quiz Sections ~25 students
-BIOL 180: Lecture ~530 students, Quiz Sections ~25 students
